At last testing Omega Bob Ebay filters
Hello I have at last tested the Omega filters that I bought in 2014. I have been on a career change path over the past 8 years. Anyhow, I am back in the hobby. Mark Townley sent me a filter way back that I am using as an erf. Maybe he will see the post and remember. The config needs to change, howev...

Mark and Montana, the time is actually UT +2. I should correct this to UT. I wish I had slightly better resolution, but at this stage its all my 71mm scope can do (but very pleased, I think the little guy is a real worker). Re: 1.25" Baader UV/IR on Quark as ERF?
Thanks Mark. This is exactly what I thought. What do you propose the risks are? The baader UV is a reflection filter. So I'm assuming that it should easily handle the smaller focus point of heat by reflecting? The other consideration being the smaller focus point back to the objective. This may be a...

I have a Baader D Erf which I need to install internally into my 127mm refractor somehow and sometime. But was thinking of using my 1.25 inch Baader UV/IR filter with this refractor in the meantime. Re: How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?
Mmm, okay that is interesting. I have never thought about it like this. But then, to bring me to the collimator lens, be it a positive or negative lens, if the f ratio needs to be the same as the main objective focal ratio (in this case f/12.5) one can never fit the "full diameter" of the ...

Re: How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?
Thank you for the reply. Only one thing that still does not make sense to me: if the light cone has a diameter of 12 mm at 850 mm behind the objective, how can the Sun's diameter here be 20.5 mm? This is then larger than the diameter of the light cone? In other words, if I were to add the Barlow or ...

Can I use this formula to calculate the width of the light cone coming from the main objective? Reason I am asking is I am considering a negative lens, added at its focal lentgh inside the light cone. Re: Some advise on building a SHG?
Okay I have now figured out that if using an achromatic objective for the collimator, it should be placed its focal length away from the slit. So in theory I would have a 80mm f/12.5 objective, placed from this a slit at 1000mm (at focal plane), then placed 250mm away from slit a 20mm achromatic len...

In my question number 2 above, I assume that the negative lens should have a focal ratio that matches the focal ratio of the main telescope, in my case f/12.5. How to Calculate Sun diameter inside Light Cone?
How does one calculate the Sun's diameter inside a light cone? I am familiar with the concept of calculating the Sun's diameter at the focal plane, eg for a 1000mm focal length telescope, the Sun would have a diameter of just under 10mm at the focal plane. The reason I am asking, is if I add a negat...
