Re: 08Aug Disk: Spectral sweep through H-alpha.

Excellent work, as always, Peter. Very helpful to see the sweep like this.
It's interesting to see the various subtle Doppler effects within the filaments as the sweep progresses through the wavelengths.

Finally some magnetic activity Aug 16th 2018

There has been relatively little magnetic activity to speak of in recent weeks, but last night all that changed.... a bit. Fast flowing solar wind from a large coronal hole reached Earth in the early hours of Aug 16th, sparking beautiful aurora for those lucky enough to see them. My magnetometer pic...

Thanks, Alexandra. I agree with you, but it really took quite some effort to squeeze out every drop of data with minimal noise. It's so difficult when the seeing conditions don't cooperate.

Beautiful prom and filament images too, Alexandra. I've looked at many sextants on various stalls here and there, but...

Saturday Sun 11th Aug

I was expecting it to be cloudy this morning....and I was right, but miracles happen and the sky cleared at around 7:30 am through to about 9:00 am when white contrails started to spoil the fun, spreading, merging and creating a milky hazy mess. Before then the sky conditions were quite good with re...

Re: Sun in Ha and CaK 8th Aug

Many thanks, Raf, Franco and Valery. Valery, I'd love to do more with the big RCT; it's a question of opportunity. Our weather has either been too warm, giving really bad seeing from my location, or, more reasently, too cloudy. On good days I've been at work. I thought I might have had a chance this...

Re: Sun 8th August

Enjoy the hols, Mark and Solarbeer, I mean Solarsphere ;) Nice FDs. With the HAT the results are just so dependent on having great seeing, as we all know with larger aperture scopes, and great seeing is only a rare treat for most of us. Still, when things do come together, it makes it all the more w...
