Nice to see, Pedro. Absolutely no chance of doing anything Solar this weekend. We have a storm blowing through!

Re: Weekend Geomagnetic Storm 7th & 8th Oct. 18

Many thanks, Mark/Peter. Here's an updated one with added data from the DSCOVR satellite which illustrates the corresponding Bz magnetic variations within the solar wind (red line). As this turns south, there's a corresponding increase in geomagnetic activity. 20181009_coronal hole.jpg Thanks for yo...

Weekend Geomagnetic Storm UPDATED 7th & 9th Oct. 18

Hi, Fast flowing solar wind from a large canyon shaped coronal hole, with embedded southerly directed magnetic fields, washed over our planet over the weekend creating a G1 storm and beautiful aurora. Here are my magnetometer data captured throughout the event. The storm left our magnetic field ring...

Re: PST Mods... but, why not a 40mm SolarMax Mod?

Hi Marty,

I guess it would be done in the same way, or similar way, as my Lunt35 mod.

An internal Barlow lens within the donor scope feeds the front mounted etalon.

I would be delighted with either of these marvellous images, Christian. The seeing conditions here are so much the limiting factor. Maybe one day I'll visit and image from one of these 'golden' locations with optimal conditions :)

Re: Lunchtime Sun

Many thanks, Franco, Mark, Raf and Alexandra. Getting time on the scopes and having lovely sunshine can be quite a challenge, especially as we enter the autumnal period. Darn..... Roll on spring :)

In the meantime, good luck for those in the south as your season begins.

Lunchtime Sun

A few lunchtime images in Ha and CaK on a beautiful blue sky day. Regrettably a very quiet sun gives limited opportunities for anything particularly exciting, but here goes: Firstly a random sample of the chromosphere using my 150mm/Lunt 35 mod. Basler acA1920-155um camera and 2.5x Powermate. https:...
