Re: Greating!

Look with your eyes.. it is a "replica grating" and if you touched it the magic would wipe off... don't look over it or talk over it either!

Re: DIY Solar Scintillation Seeing Monitor with FC support

Just found this one by random surfing.... I have an arduino so will look to make my own one. Maybe add a display rather than just uploading to the serial output.

Cheers

Big C11 options....

Right, I know a guy with an 11” SCT who is bored of imaging the planets…. Didn't think he could observe the sun with it. I mentioned Baader foil and then we got thinking. So for white light some ND3 imaging baader foil over the front and a narrow filter… continuum of maybe a NIR filter to help impro...

Seasons Greetings!

Lovely sunny day, everyone out, leaving me to "make xmas lunch" (and get the most solar data I have in session for a long while). All grabbed with my usual kit, processed (over lunch) and arranged in colour (so you don't have to scroll through a load of different images!) Let's hope for a nice sunny...

Short day... short session

OK, on holiday now... sun shining through the window, hasn't gone behind the trees yet. Forced myself out to have a midwinter imaging run. Boiling seeing, breezy.. so only CaK. Ran it through Autostakert alpha.... lovely and fast. Some nice little bright active bits in that nicely active spot region...

Might have to buy some (ugh) solar filter material.... Focussing at f4 won't be much fun!

18th May - Nice day

Had a bit of time to hand so dragged the EQ6 out, had to move the image about to smear out those little dusty doughnuts! Mix of 2x and 3x with the 80mm and CaK. Also did some 3x Wedge white light too 80mm. Then onto some experimental stuff.. what can we fit to the back of the 8" f4 reflector.... he ...

Re: Quick higher res CaK at DDA starparty

Surprised me when I tightened up the autostakkert settings. Hope for my 80mm yet.... I don't plan on buying another scope! Seeing was bad, the original Avi had around 1000frames..... Filled the netbook , put an end to the session!

Cheers

Quick higher res CaK at DDA starparty

Managed to get a quick bit of solar action at a recent starparty on Sunday 6th using a friends 100mm f15 starlight scope. popped my Lunt CaK on it with a 2x barlow. Bad seeing with cirrus and passing clouds, focussing was "fun". Autostakert with only the best 7% of frames take and wavelets in Regist...

Re: Lunt CaK module option?

Why f10? I use a b600 straight through unit in an 80mm f6.8 and the results are none too bad. Forget visual usage, go with a camera. I tried visual with a guy shill had had cataract operations and he couldn't see more than a pink purple fuzz ball that I can at half his age (or so)! Calcium is well w...

Re: Question about Lunt Solar Wedge

Only issue i can think of is the extra in focus that the 2" unit needs, once heard of problems with another brand of 2"wedge. I held off till a secondhand intes unit came up, which I snapped up and gives great views. It's only time before you end up getting halpha.... Not always much to see in white...

... And finally is there any risk of problems with getting any filter, I know that double stack filters used to have to be selected and setup for the scope they were going to be used on, would hate to get a lemon!

Bedtime.

Luntanado 60 query

Id love to double stack my LS60 but its not cheap! I wonder if it is possible to use a 60mm Coronado richview unit on my Lunt... I guess a Thread adapter would be required?? Another question along the same line, would I be able to use the rich view unit on my 80mm wo refractor with the Lunt bf1200 b...

Wetland solar observing event report

Noticed the London Wetland Centre was having a Solar Viewing event, organised by the Astro retailer Astronomia, who now have a shop on site. I offered my assistance as I have not heard of any other local events and being a Wetland Centre member it would be free for me to go along. A grey start did n...

Re: Point Grey Research cameras in the UK

Met a guy at an event over the weekend who liked his Chameleon. I got a trusty DMK41 at the moment, seems like the Chameleon has greater sensitivity but smaller pixels (so less of the disk visible), >8bit (but then lower frame rate), supplied drivers are plop but Firecapture works well?? So a worthw...

Re: Tutorials on Processing?

A can of worms, there seem to be more opinions than solar imagers... Play and see what you prefer. You can easily spend hours fiddling, I never seem to use the same settings twice, just see what works on the data I have.

Of course sometimes a mono image looks best!

Good luck
