Hi, Stu

Great view, with smooth processing.

Did you use your Lunt 35 etalon for this or another?

Re: Current ARs from June 16 afternoon

As Stu implied, the noise came from excessive processing (over use of wavelets). The scale displayed should have been reduced a bit,

Current ARs from June 16 afternoon

These were taken using an Aries 265mm ERF + C9.25 + 3X Baader Telecentric + Quark Combo +FLIR (5Mp) Blackfly during mid afternoon (1 - 2 pm local) Yes, the scale is a bit much and the images a bit noisy (due to stacking only 200/1000 frames) but I haven't found a suitable reducer yet to bring it dow...

Re: June 15th's Sunspot AR2713 and large Prominences | HA & WL | Quark

Hi, MalVeaux You brought out some fine prom detail and the AR closeup is what I was wishing for yesterday before the wind put a stop to that hope. I can relate to what you say about gradients and stitching artifacts in full disks. Sometimes, blending is easy. Other times, I have to do a lot of work ...

Skyburner: Wow!

I should send you all my images for processing. You've brought out more detail than in my positive. I'm going to revisit that image.

I usually have 3 of these cozy sun worshippers in my yard when I image ( a 16 year old from 2002 and two 2 year olds from 2016)

Re: First light with Blackfly S (5 Mp sensor)

Thanks, everyone, for the comments. Alexandra: The camera costs $1095USD, half the price of Grasshopper 3 (2.8Mp). Note that there currently is no other driver software that will run these new Blackfly S cameras besides Spinnaker and that there is a lot of jumping between windows that control settin...

(Updated) First light with Blackfly S (5 Mp sensor)

This new Blackfly S has a sensor that matches the size of the 2.8 Mp G3 (2/3 inch), has very nice dynamic range and other specs but has twice tha resolution and 3 times the frame rate of 75 frames/s, easily achievable at 8 bits pixel depth. It also shares the Spinnaker software with my other Blackfl...

I always prefer a "right side up" orientation to prom images, just the way I look at life. The floating impression is enhanced this way.

AR2712 and tiny proms on June 1

Today was a very hot day with clearing in the afternoon and predictably poor seeing. All images were taken with an LS80 and Blackfly S (1.6Mp). One of the 10 files generated couldn't be opened by the image viewer in Windows or Autostakkert. An alert indicated that this occurred because the viewer co...

Well, Alexandra, I figure if I keep using my 10 thumbs to keep clicking and typing, something has to happen eventually. That's what "intuitive" means,
doesn't it?

AR2712 and prom from May 30

These both were taken with an LS80 + 2.5X Powermate and Blackfly S on a hot, hazy day with poor seeing. The camera does show Newton's rings which were very easily eliminated. The software (Spinnaker) has a quirky(for me) way of recording. The shutter speed is in microseconds (10000 µs = 1/100 s). Yo...

AR2712 on May 29

This was taken at 1:00 pm local time and the seeing was worse than usual. I used an LS152. 5w2.jpg 5w2inv.jpg Also, I'm becoming more comfortable with my Blackfly S and the Spinnaker interface and verified the following performance attributes at various pixel formats (camera buffer had to be turned ...

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

Hi, Laura

The Genika Astro interface is far better than that of Flycap/Spinnaker but I don't think that it supports Spinnaker yet. Since it is paid software, I wouldn't get into it until I see some assurance on their website that the support is there.

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

I did more organized testing using a PGR G3(2.8Mp) and a FLIR Blackfly S with two proprietary most up to date SDK packages, Flycapture and Spinnaker, with and without Firecapture. The test results are shown below. When using Spinnaker alone with the PGR G3, the camera name has an exclamation mark be...

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

I can access the Blackfly S through the newer SpinnakerSDK alone but not with Firecapture + Spinnaker. I never tried using Flycap on its own for this camera, only with Firecapture + Flycap which couldn't find the camera. If memory serves, Flycap wasn't much of an improvement over the current Spinnak...

Re: First worthwhile results from a high res set up

Thanks Laura and Valery for the useful advice. A 0.7X reducer would be ideal since originally I looked at this c9.25 to be used at about 4600mm (with a 2X Powermate), a short jump from my LS152 at 3800mm. I didn't know there were any at that reduction factor but I will look at the Baader.

Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

A FLIR Blackfly S arrived yesterday (May 25), an intriguing little USB3.1 camera with a 1.6 Mp sensor that runs at 220+ frames/s and a nice price point. The compatibilty chart on the Firecapture website indicates support for PGR/FLIR cameras but after installing the latest Flycapture and Firecapture...
