Re: Free + shipping: Gutted PST

If you're paying for shipping, I'd ship it to....uh....the sun! So Switzerland is no big deal. I'll post up the dimensions and weight tonight so we can get a quote together.

Free + shipping: Gutted PST

I have the remains of a PST that I would love to pass on to a good home. It has: -A rusted objective lens -A decontacted etalon -An etalon housing with the rotating rubber ring assembly/foam rings/lenses etc (it has no etalon in it, though) -A complete main body housing, with the prism/focuser assem...

Re: FS: Supercharged PST with PST Mod Equipment

Hi kornfeld1, I am interested in the PST for Mod purpose. If Wah wants the BF10 then that’s OK, I will take the rest and get a BF 10 later. We will need to get a price for freight to Australia. Please let me know. Your email address is not being recognised for some reason. pkeck2@yahoo. com Hi sola...

Re: FS: Supercharged PST with PST Mod Equipment

Herbert, As always I would like for you to consider donating the scope to the nonprofit for the write off and I will get it into the hands of someone who will use it for outreach. Or you might just give it to someone at a local school?. I can assure you that the payback is tenfold compared to the m...

FS: Supercharged PST with PST Mod Equipment

I've decided to sell my PST. During my time owning it, I've added a few extra pieces to it to upgrade it's capabilities in preparation for putting the etalon on a much bigger scope. Unfortunately, my interests have changed, so I don't think I'm ever going to get around to putting it all together and...

Re: Recontacting Etalons

Excellent, I was hoping you'd see my post. If anyone else agrees or disagrees, please post up. I still have my other entire PST, which has the newer blue objective and and a good blocking filter and ERF (or whatever the lens under the red blocking filter is. I can just put the other etalon into this...

Re: Recontacting Etalons

Bump! Been a while since I've been around here. I've all but given up with the recontacting of my etalon. On the upside, I found a lead on a PST with a rusty objective. What would you all say is a reasonable price to pay for one? I was thinking $250, but I have no idea if that's in or out of line. T...

Re: Recontacting Etalons

Great post Colin, thanks. This has all unfortunately fallen to the back burner as my work computer was stolen from my workplace, which lead to me trying to do as much as I could to make sure my identity wasn't subsequently stolen. Funny how life ends up getting in the way of our hobbies. :) I should...

Re: Recontacting Etalons

After reading here and elsewhere online, I was under the impression that store bought acetone (even of the unscented variety) was still not terribly pure; and that even reagent grade acetone (at 99.5%+ purity) might not work as well as spectroscopy grade acetone. I guess it can't hurt to give it a s...

Re: Recontacting Etalons

I'm currently trying to see if I have any contacts that can donate a small quantity of acetone to me....I'm having a hard time finding it commercially in quantities under a liter, and I definitely don't need that much. The discussion going here is great, but I don't have much to contribute, so thank...

Re: PST Etalon Assembly / Disassembly Video

Yep. My message to pass on to everyone else: put a towel or something on the surface you're working on to provide some cushion. My etalon basically fell directly onto the granite counter top on the island in my kitchen. Not smart.

Re: Recontacting Etalons

I've never decontacted and etalon and don't want to! Yeah....I really didn't want to either. I was working super carefully, being meticulous about not touching optical surfaces, moving slowly, etc. I have absolutely no idea why I picked the etalon up by the foam that was stuck to it. As soon as it ...

Recontacting Etalons

I disassembled my PST etalon assembly in order to add a centering ring as mentioned in this thread. In a moment of sheer stupidity, I picked up the etalon itself by the foam. The foam had stuck to the etalon, so it stayed stuck just long enough for the etalon to lift up in the air...and then unstick...

My rings came in today; both in good shape. Thanks for shipping those. Now for the bad news. :( I disassembled the etalon assembly, and in a moment of sheer stupidity, picked up the etalon itself by the foam. Re: PST Mod question

That isn't my image, I pulled that from the PDF I linked to. If that's to be expected, then I guess I just need to play around with the tuning some more! To tune, I'll usually set the external etalon all the way closed, then monkey around with the PST etalon until it looks good. Then I'll open the e...

Re: PST Mod question

It's been a while since I updated this, but I finally got a full stage 2 set up in place, and the issue remains. I did realize something though: I don't think the vignetting is actually vignetting. I think it's uneven illumination across the field of view. I found this out when I rotated the externa...
