Re: First real CaK prom!

Superb......... I was smiling for hours after capturing my first CaK prom and it must feel even better with a DIY system.

Re: CaK with 250 mm RCT- REWORKED!

Great images Stu and overall very interesting stuff. I can use my 100mm f10 Tal most days for CaK and with two x2 Barlows stacked together I have had very sharp results on days of really good seeing. I have tried using the CaK1200 unit on my 152mm f5.9 scope with promising results - I have a near fu...

Frustration in the Sun

Woke up to blue sky which turned into cloud precisely 5 minutes after the Sun cleared the big tree in the South East corner of my garden    Very interesting structure in upper left quadrant........ only visible in Ha. Only managed one half decent capture before I was fishing in eve...

Pretty good image Stu - that area looked very interesting for a few minutes. I had exactly the same experience this morning with blue sky until 5 minutes after the Sun cleared the big tree in my garden!

Re: August 23 2020 Observations

About as blank as I have ever seen the Sun but your excellent observations support what I often tell my friends; there is always something to see in Ha if you have a reasonable aperture and the patience to look!
Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Good use of a 'blank disc' day Eric!
As others have said, number 4 looks very good indeed and I look forward to seeing your next post with a bit more action on the surface.

Re: August 22 FD CaK H-alpha AR12772

Impressive set of images Leo. The Lunt CaK unit is a great bit of kit and I'm sure you will be blown away once you use it on a disc with more features. My unit is the CaK1200 and I use it with a Tal 100mm f10 most of the time. In poor seeing I step it down to 80mm or even 60mm but on good days I use...

Re: I saw the ISS today 20-08-2020

Alexandra - I DO tend to trust Firecapture - for some things anyway    When I did my ISS capture a few weeks ago, I did exactly the same calculation of number of frames showing the ISS divided by transit time and compared the answer to what was reported by Firecapture. Like you, I fo...

A little addition... hot off the computer

Just 27 minutes of action. Poor quality in the rapidly changing seeing but an impressive amount of action in ashort time:

Nice set of captures Stu. I was out fishing in the cracks between the clouds and looking for some reasonable seeing this morning too. As you say, take what you can after a week of cloud and gales forecast for tomorrow!

Re: Prom measure on scale

Hi Maurits As its my image you posted......... I can tell you exactly how it was done. The scale Alexandra explained is what I used but it can be a bit frustrating as the numbered lines outside the disc are often in the wrong place. I edited the original overlay so that there are numbered layers at ...

Re: Experimenting with new camera

Thanks guys :bow2 The ASI290MM has been a pleasant surprise. When I ordered it I didn't give a thought to whether it would work for Solar imaging as I was intending to use it for deep sky and/or AllSky work. However, having realised that it has incredibly low noise (less than 1.5 (e-rms) above 100 g...
