Re: Concept model of new 12" Solar Newton

Thanks Ken, Mark and Robert. Do appreciate your well wishes. Whilst I'm not pleased with the situation, I plan to continue my work as long as I can. Had purchased a Lunt 100 DS which will be arriving next week. Hope to fire it up in addition to my 12" Solar Newton and see what they can do. Too bad w...

Re: Concept model of new 12" Solar Newton

Thanks Ken - your thoughts are appreciated. My biggest concern is my lovely partner Gigi - must prepare things for her. Next is first light for my 12" Solar Newton - will give it a good try.

Cheers,

Bill

Re: Concept model of new 12" Solar Newton

My 12" Solar Newton has fallen behind given a number of circumstances. Although the finders have been fabricated and attached, the Arduino /stepper motors setup, the Arduino code needs some tweaking and calibration. The following images are self-explanatory. finders.jpg base.jpg arduino.jpg More sig...

Re: Horrendous haze today

Thanks everyone for you kind comments. Although I'll image anything simply for the opportunity to practice, it is far more satisfying when viewing conditions are such that the full potential of my 8" Solar Newton can be realized. Yesterday was disappointing but, September 4th was not. Sept4201708_42...

Horrendous haze today

With an horrendous haze today, these images of AR2685 are for the record only since sunspots have been scarce these days - far from masterpieces.

Re: Possible damage on BF600?

Semantics aside, the important issue is what to do to keep imaging. I live in the Caribbean where shipping is always an issue in terms of time/delays as well as keeping the customs folks happy. Pleased to hear that you agree.

bart1805;

Actually, it is the IR/UV "blocking filter". Try my suggestion out - what have you got to lose other than waiting for the replacement to arrive ? Trust me, I've been there and done that. Remember, it will happen again in the future.

Looks like "crud". Had this problem a few years ago and Rikk, at Lunt was very helpful in offering to replace the BF. Meanwhile, I tried cleaning the BF using rust remover and, it worked. Re: Exiting AR2683 post tropical storm Nate

Thanks Stu and Mark. We've been lucky here regarding Hurricanes ever since Ivan in 2004. Ivan was a Cat 5 which passed 20 miles south of us and, almost 80 % of the Island was under water - my house was surrounded by 4 feet of water with two feet inside. This year the USA and Antilles got the worst o...

Bad conditions today however, AR2673 had to be imaged for the record. Something is better than nothing - usually. A very complex sunspot.

Hi Don; Almost missed this one since the original post was a year ago. The simple answer is the ASI174MM - love it and am now buying another with built in cooling. Though I bought an ASI290MM for its small pixel size, I've not been all that impressed with it. Could be good for planetary work. Hope t...
