Strange Solar reactions with a 60 mm Lunt MOD
I have not posted many images since I completed the assembly of my 60 mm Lunt MOD with a Meade 102ED. The scope performs very well but if you decide to make one - the weight of the Moonlight Adapters plus Original Etalon assembly from Lunt (60 mm PT H-alpha filter unit) makes for a very heavy scope ...

Lightning strike on the SUN!
August 20th 2017 I captured this bizzare "lightning strike" (or should I say "Electical Arc") in the centre of an activity area. I have never seen such a phenomena in H-alpha in 25 years of H-alpha photography. I thought of asking Big Bear who usually reply to me. Can anyone expl...

Focal reducers in H-alpha MOD photography
Recently I tried again to use a 0.5X focal reducer in front of my DMK41AUQ camera for H-alpha photography. Because Modded optics (with PST or LUNT Mods) capture such a small angle of detail it would be nice if you could enlarge the field by at least a factor of 2X with a 0.5 focal reducer. I had no ...

Re: Focal Reducers and H-alpha photography
Has anyone had any experience using a 0.5 X Focal Reducer in front of a DMK41AUO (or equivalent camera) in H-alpha photography. The kit from Williams Optics has a small 0.5X eyepiece-fitting lens along with a detachable barrel (about 1" long) that fits it. Neither component in any combination w...

Re: Final Assembly LUNT 60 mm Pressure tuned MOD
Has anyone tried to add a telecentric lens (such as an Astrophysics telecentric) directly in front of the LUNT 60 mm Ha Pressure-tuned assembly in a MOD position? (i'e. like mine on the rear of a Meade 102ED)? Effectively doing what we used to do with Del Woods original Daystar Ha filters, straighte...

Re: Final Assembly LUNT 60MOD mm Pressure tuned MOD
I guess its time I showed some of my images taken with the new 60 mm PT Ha MOD coupled to a Meade 102ED Apocromat. The interesting thing about this construction I came up with is that it is constantly tunable - just be rotating the whole Etalon assembly around its 1 mm micro thread attaching it to t...

Lunt Mod
For Merlin 66 I could not download the webmaster address for some reason unknown, but am answering your request on Solarchat. The Lunt MOD finally turned out to be a success (I had my doubts at first because of high altitude jet stream perturbations since March 1 2017. Finally got some good seeing j...

Re: Final Assembly LUNT 60 mm Pressure tuned MOD
Just one added diagram you need for the 60 mm PT Lunt MOD conversion - the assembly diagram. If you follow this the only variance will be your focal point and thus the length of the tubing between the two Moonlite Adapters. Moonlite was very helpful in this construction and no other way could you bu...

Final Assembly LUNT 60 mm Pressure tuned MOD
Just finished construction of a 60 mm Pressure tuned Lunt MOD fitted to a Meade 102ED refractor, Turned out exceedingly well. If you try to construct this keep in mind that you must know your objective focal length and most important that it has a long focus outreach (in the vicinity of at least 10 ...

Orion 80 mm PST MOD
I completed a new PST-MOD using an Orion 80 mm achromat removed from an Orion Wide Field 80 mm refractor. I built a new tube from 4-1/2" OD 6016 grade aluminum tubing, and machined a new lens cell which is slidable within the OTA. The lens cell was arranged so that it almost touches the racked-...

Re: And now the H-Alpha Killer, a Lunt-Mod
Achim How did you figure out the actual focus? The push-pull in and out with the Lunt Etalon hub and its focuser is a trial -its heavy and very awkward to hold in the light path. In your slider mechanism did you slot the aluminum bar to move the Etalon - how did you keep it aligned? I tried it very ...

Re: 2nd video - Lunt 60PT f/8.3 to meade LX70 5" f8.3 & BF30
Mark; Before I order a new tube I'm curious about Solar-Cologne's approach to this Mod by ADDING length to his Donor Refractor. Could he possibly reply to us on how far beyond or within (or at) the focal length of his Donor Refractor he placed the collimator lens on front of the 60 mm PT Etalon? He ...

Re: 2nd video - Lunt 60PT f/8.3 to meade LX70 5" f8.3 & BF30
Thank you Mark Lens theory is not one of my realms of knowledge (I'm just an Architect and Writer). It makes perfect sense to take the Lunt's Scope f/ratio and reverse it to the collimating lens, using the collimating lenses diameter in the famous equation Focal length = Diameter of Objective (lens)...

Modding a Lunt 6mm PT Etalon to a Meade 102ED Donor Refractor
I got a part answer from Solar-Cologne in "And now the H-alpha Killer, a Lunt-Mod", but the Meade 102ED has only a 4-1/2" bore and is further restricted by its tailpiece flange having less than a 3-1/2" aperture - so the Lunt PT 60 mm white OTA tube will not pass through into it....

Converting a Lunt PT 60 mm H-alpha to larger objective
I need some help! I tried converting a 60 mm Lunt Pressure-tuned Etalon assembly (the red hub and focuser behind it) into a 4" objective Refractor. In fact it was my Meade 102ED which has an enormous back-focus (11 inches) that I used as an OTA. My Meade 102 ED has a Moonlight focuser that come...

Re: ZWOI174 versus DMK41AU02.as
Thanks for your good assistance. I use my Solar imaging equipment in a full dome observatory ( I design them for clients). because of this, the ambient air temp is really high (reflection inside the dome) and any camera I've ever used gets hot - too hot - even if shielded. I would like to try the Or...

ZWOI174 versus DMK41AU02.as
I just lost operation on my DMK41AU02.as (presumably burned out from over-heating in direct sunlight) - a good reason to always baffle video cameras from sunlight! I'm forced to buy a new camera unless someone can fix it (Imaging Source is reluctant to do so). The sensor size in the ZWO is nearly as...

Re: PST etalon (or similar) in a telecentric beam
I have a PST MOD on my Meade 102ED that produces good images in the range of a .4 to .5 Angstrom quality Etalon. Looking at the recent comments on discarding the front and rear collimators, I erroneously tried inserting a Losmandy Telecentric lens in front of the front collimator lens which of cours...
