Re: Newton Rings and CCD Fringing
Like many Solarites, I started with a Lunt50/B600 (f/7.5) + ZWO ASI120MM! The latter a "Fine Thing" but (as often noted) producer of Newton's Rings? Below a slightly "unsharp-masked" single frame from then typical video! :P sharp000.jpeg A 2x Barlowed (f/15) image with Lunt50 / A...

Solar ERF for LUNAR imaging? :D
Just as an off-beat idea, I wondered if anyone had tried using a solar ERF Filter for Lunar Imaging? I suspect some here may be secret Lunar Imagers as well? ;) In THEORY, it should work? The Baader ones are supposedly "optically flat" etc. Of course, there is the (usual) "tilt thing&...

Re: Sun HA 5th April (Disks + Proms)
Excellent results with the Frankenscope. Definitely try sharpening the full disk at a smaller radius 1-1.3 pixels, looks like you're sharpening at 3+ pixel radius. Too large a radius hides finer detail. Thanks Mark! I will think on... I always LIKE the fellow "experimentalists"! St...

Thanks Franco and Mark. Indeed (Mark) I should "tighten up" on processing. But I feel I am (finally!) happy enough with the hardware. I guess we have a fair while until the next Solar Max! :| I Enjoy your BLOG, by the way... In similar *ersatz* (lol) vein, I took a 1hr sequence of 1min ON ...

First Light ED80 / Lunt50 Frankenscope
After previous experiments with a stopped-down ST120 / Lunt50 Frankenscope, decided to try the lighter & better(?) ED80 OTA. ;) :!: N.B. As ever, only attempt to modify solar scopes as per the *Modifications* forum and noting remarks on eyeball safety etc. IMG_0791.JPG Setup can STILL be...

Some very useful (hard) information! Do you have similar data re. the standard Lunt 50 (pressure tuner)? I have to admit I now wonder if *abandoning* my 80mm ED Frankenscope project would be better... :P Originally based on a "stopped down" ST120 achromat, I sense (hope!) the ED80 objectiv...

Thanks Alexandra! TBH, I'm not even sure I can even emulate the default sharpened output from AS!2... with Registax... ImPPG has a nice property that it can "highlight" different radial zones! ;) I suspect there might be a ED80 with "my name on it" eventually. I only have ...

Sun 28.02.18 (New Camera -- New beginnings?)
Despite the excitement of a *working* Frankenscope, my images always seemed "somewhat lacking" (to me)! Part of the problem, a slightly "dodgy" (uneven pixels) DMK41 chip and the occasional Newtons Rings! :| The Camera is now replaced by the (so far) excellent Chameleon 3. ...

Hi SB! :) There is e.g. a convenient EU source of 100mm Lunt ERF's at Teleskope Service (DE)? https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p2540_Lunt-LS100ERF---100-mm-Energy-rejection-filter.html There is a slight "flaring" of the ST120 lens cell to give a canonical 120mm. B...

To complete this quickly and to answer a question from another thread! (Adapted from other notes, so continuity / intelligibility not guaranteed!) :P Since the above I bought an ST120 (to reclaim my ST102 grab & go OTA!) The ST120 also maximizes the focal length for the Lunt BF600 and gives a bi...

I have learned that the threads on the clam shell are
10-32 UNF. I can now bolt on my own solar finder.
