Re: H-Alpha August 10th Lunt 152 - feedback wanted!
Thanks Mark I appreciate that. Being in Ottawa Canada our weather is attrocious so the high magnification views are few and far between. Could you help me understand the technical reason why a larger aperture scope is more susceptible to poor seeing than a small one? Is it as simple as the big scope...

H-Alpha August 10th Lunt 152 - feedback wanted!
Hey all, I have been using my Lunt 152 for the past few months and learning how to use it. I am really impressed by the pictures everyone is taking here on the forums and am looking for some guidance on how I could improve the views (and photos) through the 152. One things I struggle with is the sur...

International SUNday in Zadar, Croatia
I was taking some vacation in Croatia a few weeks ago, which coincided with International SUNDay. I drove to the nearest large town and they had one of those "to scale" solar system representations. Perfect! I setup right beside the Sun with my Solarmax 40. And then the fun DIDN'T start. I'm fluent ...

Re: ERF's and a Quark +150mm F5 Refractor
Acording to daystar an ERF is necessary only above 150mm however verify this yourself. Yes it is possible to mount an ERF internally but you will still be rejecting the heat in the tube which will cause turbulence and "poor seeing". You won't be getting the full benefits of mounting the ERF internal...

Re: Equipment recommendation for a possible comeback
Just read this thread, not sure that the Quark is a good idea any more: http://solarchat.natca.net/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=19838 :( I was recently looking into this option as well. The quark seems like a low cost and versatile option and I was ready to click the buy button. However after reading revie...

Re: Equipment recommendation for a possible comeback
You can use the new or old, preferably you'd want to look through it and verify the etalon is in good shape. No banding or uneven illumination. The only difference I have read is the new PST have a LOT more lock-tight on the threads so disassembling the PST really is the hardest part of this endeavor.

Re: Equipment recommendation for a possible comeback
Bojan thanks for the info. I have a friend who can make custom work for me even for free or for a cheap price, he made a 150mm refractor mod with two Lunt50 filters. That is why I said that it sounds better, perhaps I should start to hunt for a used PST right now instead of the Quark :) I have no r...
