Re: Altair Hypercam 183M Mono CMOS Camera with ROI

Hi Merlin, PCs can send a few watts out through the USB port and the USB cable can carry more than enough power for the 40mm fan and the camera, and you get to lose a cable. Here's that Hypercam 183M lunar image , so you can get some idea of what the camera can do. I resized it 50% and compressed it...

Re: Altair Hypercam 183M Mono CMOS Camera with ROI

Hi Merlin, the fan draws air through the casing and onto a heat-sink then out the vents. The heat-sink is connected to the sensor - same principle cooling a PC graphics card chip. When the fan is running you can see the temperature drop, and the casing is kept nice and cool to the touch, which is go...

Altair Hypercam 183M Mono CMOS Camera with ROI

Hi there, the Altair 183M Mono camera may well be an interesting option for solar imagers who want ROI for small details, and full frame for full disc. Hydrogen Alpha or white light... The fan keeps the casing and electronics cool, just like the other Hypercams. Altair Hypercam 183M Mono Best, Nick

Re: How do you remove your Newton stripes?

SharpCap has a live flat feature, we asked for this specifically for solar. Worth giving it a go also. I get rid of Newton's rings by tilting the camera about 2 degrees. (Altair 174M but uses the same sensor). Works perfectly for me, no rings whatsoever.

Got around to processing a few files this morning.
Here's a 400 frame stack with Hypercam 174M with Altair imaging solar-wedge taken a few days ago.

I think I need to move to the Caymans. The seeing is so much better than the UK, wow!

Re: Quark and TS 115 APO

Oh yes, if you use a UVIR cut filter, use a 2" on the front of a diagonal, then it will be larger to better intercept the beam at lower intensity because further up the focus.

Re: Quark and TS 115 APO

You can get away without the ERF Bill but I find the image is a bit "softer" without ERF. I takes a few months to realise it, and the realisation kind of creeps up on you. Also without the ERF you can burn the paint inside the tube and catch the baffles, but only if you keep the scope misaligned for...

Re: Realtime Seeing Filter idea - to benefit Altair GPCAM / Hypercam owners and others

I think the difference is that with this idea it doesn't sense the whole sun, just a part of it within the camera's FOV. Also it doesn't look at brightness (though I guess it could) but instead contrast. I.e. the relative brightness between features as a way to judge the "Quality" of a frame, on a p...

Realtime Seeing Filter idea - to benefit Altair GPCAM / Hypercam owners and others

Hi Guys, I'm tired of capturing big video files and discarding 80% of them, so I came up with this idea while processing solar images in white light with our solar wedge. In bad conditions, I'm using like 10% of my frames so each file is basically 10x larger than it needs to be if you think of it th...

Re: 135mm D-ERF to a 160mm D-ERF

Hi Ewan, Since we became APM distributor I started playing around with APM gear. I've been imaging for some time with the Altair 152 F5.9 at full aperture and a Quark and I'm getting pretty good results so far as I'm sure you've seen especially on faint proms which look better at shorter F Ratios al...

Re: New imaging ready Herschel Wedge from Altair Astro

Hi Guys, I must say that's so very encouraging, thanks so much!

I'll post more about some new products (cameras) soon, which I have developed with solar in mind (as well as deepsky and planetary).

Best regards, Nick

New imaging ready Herschel Wedge from Altair Astro

Hi Guys, new Vendor to this forum so hope I'm allowed to post here. We've got the new Altair imaging-ready Solar Wedges in stock. It has a very wide adjustment in brightness, so you can get some good high resolution shots of granulation and so-on easier. Visual range is also covered and it has a ver...
