Re: December 31st

Brian, Nice images. I have about the same Lunt telescope as you. Down here in the states I'm going through a record cold snap with mostly clear skies. Do you have any tips as far as pressure tuning the telescope in the cold? I noticed it was really tough getting any kind of tuning from my scope last...

So jealous! Sunday was the first day in awhile where we didn't have clear skies. I would have loved to have seen that beast. Nice work.

My first successful CaK filtered image

It took me weeks to get something worthwhile to post. I've read a lot on this forum and all that reading and research has paid off. I've quickly learned that seeing has to be decent for CaK images: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4448/37151072884_395721bf9e_b.jpg Calcium K Line Solar First Success by...

Lunt CaK wedge aperture precaution

So now I have a Lunt CaK wedge. Lunt recommends you to not use it on anything larger than 100mm aperture. Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but is using an 80mm scope with an aperture mask overkill?

Looks great. I tend to be a bit nostalgic sometimes, but I really like that wood Celestron tripod. Don't get me wrong, a Takahashi scope would be great to have someday not to mention all your solar toys!

This is exactly what I have been wanting to strive for. Wonderfully done! Were you able to get the recording to show both the surface detail and the prominences simultaneously or did it require one recording each and assemble the two later?

Loved the diamond ring video. :hamster: It went from one quarter to four karats in thirty seconds. I was wanting to becoming a jeweler a long time ago.

Re: Help - How do you create these composite eclipse shots?

Alexandra, I tried to use the astropix procedure with layers too at first and got a similar result as you. So, to make light of the situation, you're following in my footsteps. The key is the "Apply Image" command which is the tedious part in the whole procedure, having to keep track of every exposu...

The look of this reminds me of the famous photographer, Ansel Adams. If he were to photograph an eclipse, it would almost look like this.

Wow! I don't know how it could get any better than this. With this much detail, the image starts to look like a stone mosaic.

Corona Picture, finally <dusts hands off>

I had been wanting to do an HDR picture of a solar eclipse ever since I saw what was possible over the years. Well, it finally came to fruition and, after catching up on my day job, here's my first result: https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4354/36636994202_b4e1eb472a_h.jpg 21 Aug 2017 HDR Eclipse by Ch...

I of course am jealous of the animation. All my solar lately has been outreach on 100% clear days. I'm curious to know what software you use to assemble the timelapse sequence after processing each image. The one I use is very clunky.

Alexandra, I sort of feel your pain. Our lab lost two -80C freezers last month. I'm starting to consider a CaK scope now based on everything I've seen here and I"m glad I read this thread about how AS can limit itself to sections of a recording. It will come in handy for lunar stuff. Nice pic BTW. C...
