Re: All things nice

Hi Alexandra,

Good captures (and animation). I noticed these as well on Friday and it was indeed spectacular. For a short time these were even visible (very bright) almosts straight up. (Maybe 20 minutes, then only at lower degrees) Had no camera within reach. Pitty

Thanks everyone.
Weather (cloud layyers) did not really permit to follow these. (Which were classified as AR2742 &2743)

2 small spots

The left one emerged already yesterday, so think we can call it a spot.
As seen today (24-06) with some high thin clouds obstructing good views.

Re: SharpCap overlaying a rippled filter effect?

Just one more question: the 120 is it a 120MC or 120MC-S (usb2 vs usb3) The USB2 (older) models deviated a bit from USB standards (something with buffer sizes, made it very fast even on USB2). On W7 this was not an issue, but from user reports I read this sometimes cause problems on W10 due to stric...

Re: SharpCap overlaying a rippled filter effect?

Hello, don't think this is the same as the "cross-hatches" seen with the ASI178 & 183. (These will change if you zoom-in or zool-out). If FireCapture does not find the camera, there must be something wrong with the camera installation. For the ASI 120 there have been different drivers in the past. (...

Re: Omni xlt 120mm and quark

For Maks & SCT's you will need a cool front ERF . (Baader, Aries ...) Without it, too much heat will build up in the tube and reflected from primary to secondary mirror. You risc melting (if plastic parts) or secondary coming of (if glued) You can't work with an UV/IT in front of the mirror. Of cour...

Re: How bring ASI174MM in focus with PST

Hello Jordan, I don't have a ASI174 but had a look at the documentation: https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/asi174mm There might be a way shortening the backfocus by removing the T2 ring, but then you will need to find a nosepiece with inner T2 thread (the supplied one has outer T2 thread....

Re: Omni xlt 120mm and quark

Impossible to get full disc with that scope and standard Quark. The blocking filter only allows full disc view with scopes with fl ~400mm. (I have a 80mm f/6 -> 480mm FL, does not give me full disc either, FL just a tad to long) An UV/IR (best a 2") in front of the Quark will do. Better a Baader 35n...

Re: Omni xlt 120mm and quark

Yep, that stock focuser is a nightmare. The scope is very much ok in H-Alfa. I have the Skywatcher version and replaced the focuser with a Baader Diamond Steeltrack. This scope has a very short tube. With the very long stock focuser and a 2" diagonal it will be ok. Wit focuser replacement you will n...

Re: All we get to see from the Sun lately ...

Thanks.
Never seen a rainbow like this, where a 180° span lasted for more than 8 minutes, and the secondary was also had 180° visibility for some time.

Hope you will get some better weather ...

Re: May 29

Thanks Alexandra & Franco. Franco: nog magnification. The insets are the 100% crop of the camera. This cam has 3096*2080 pixels (2.44µ, just a bit undersampled for this scope), the full resolution image (even with high jpeg compression) will be huge. So I scaled down the final full disc image, but c...

Update: May 29, cycle 25?

Yesterday some small activity, but looking at SDO today seems already gone. (Clouds today, so can't verify) Also some Polar Faculae Imaged with the 80mm, so only small image resolution. (Seeing did not allow much more anyway) Insets a full pixel scale. (open in new tab for full image size) according...

Re: Solar Images taken May 9th 2019 and a question.

Hi Martin, can confirm the ND3.8 gives much better results than the ND5. I have been using the ND5 in my C8 at prime focus and this still ok, but adding extra filters (baader continuum ...) will make exposure to slow. Also if adding any barlow to increase f/ratio will need the 3.8. (ND 3.8 is diffic...

Re: Electronic focuser the Sesto Senso.

Hi, got that focuser recently but could not do much testing yet. (Hospital took me out-of-business again) I wanted to attach it to a cheap GSO Crayford. It works, but because the 10x spindle of the GSO is not really straight and the Sesto connector is the stiff type that gave some wobble. I then att...

Re: FireCapture: How to get 12bit video.

Mark, is there a way you can compare the both files on the image data? I have no experience with PGR cams but it looks odd to me that there are differences. I know from Torsten he just writes down the values coming from the cams in the SER files and that should be no different to for Fits. I could d...

Re: I need a laptop that matches the speed of ZWO ASI174

Hi, cheapest option probably is to build an SSSM. Then there is no need anymore to transfer huge amounts of data from the buffer to the disc (since only good seeing moments are saved) That with a good USB3 connection and enough memory (I use 16Gb) should do. Other option, but the laptop needs to sup...
