AR2706 / 20-04-2018

Small image of AR2706 today. Skywatcher 120 f/8.3 with the new Baader Diamond Steeltrach focuser mounted (still in manual focus) and a new 2" 35nm Baader H-Alfa filter. (mounting the steeltrack was not that easy. Synta had painted the inside flange  , so it did not realy fit. Some sandpaper was...

Very good captures Marty. You must have excelent seeing conditions.
Tried the same area today but no decent results. Seeing was steady, but transparancy was very bad.

Re: Some reasonable captures

Thanks everybody. Nice blue sky today, so a new try. Seems something interesting is coming on the east-side.
(noticed something yesterday already, but it was still partially hidden behind the limb)

Some reasonable captures

Hi, Warm and sunny. That has been a long time. Some captures from this morning (18-04-2018) of a quiet sun, but still some interesting features. Used the Skywatcher 120-f8.3 and the Quark. Focal Reducer (0.56x) and ASI 178MM binned 2 for not oversampling to much. Focusing with the stock focuser was ...

Re: Noise, Firecapture and imaging questions

The ASI 174 has very fast frame rates, so that might indeed cause some drops, and the ASI 183 is huge ... As SSD i am using these M2 SSD cards which fit directly onto an M2 slot in the motherboard. In PCI mode I can get read speeds of over 1000Mb/sec and write speeds over 350Mbits/sec. Unfortunately...

Re: Noise, Firecapture and imaging questions

In my opinion SER has always advantages except for disk space. SER format records exactly what the camera records, while in AVI you are never sure how the content is modified due to compression algoritms. (16 bit data transfer from camera doubles so you need a fast USB, processor and disk to keep it...

Re: Turbulent AR2703

Hi Mark,

that scope indeed seems to be ok for the Quark, but still a lot of work. Need to get the focuser replaced, and motorize that focuser. (You can't have it all for a €370.00 optical tube). Also need a bit better seeing.

Thks,

Paul

Re: Turbulent AR2703

Hi Eric,

that outburst did not seem to last long. A few hours later (and also now) looking at the GONG images it is completely calm.

Kind regards,

Maybe I should have written "poor" seeing. Lots of passing clouds as well.

Turbulent AR2703

Hi,

Clouds and sunshine alternating. Fair seeing, but chance to test the 120 f/8.3 refractor.
Turbulent AR2703, fairly big changes in 30 minutes. You could almost watch the changes in real-time.

Re: High Res White Light, Calling all C8 Imagers?

Camera was an ASI-120MMS. Can't remember if I used my barlow for that one, so it was either at f/10 or with a 2.5 x barlow. The first would be under- the second oversampled. If I would take these now I would use my ASI178MM at the C8 prime focus which should give a better match for pixel size. And a...

Re: High Res White Light, Calling all C8 Imagers?

Hi Marty, here is an old one from 2016; done with a C8 and Baader Astro Solar ND 5. It is not that good, I had just taken up astro imaging again after approx. 20 years of doing something else, but It shows what should be possible. I should reprocess it (if I can find back the SER file) because since...

Re: ZWO ASI 178 or 183 mono

Hi, I have the ASI178 mono and for planetary imaging with the C8 in the focal plane it is a good match (just slightly oversampled) . For solar work that cam gives me constant headaches due to square artifacts which always show up in the image. This seems to happen only in H-Alfa and also if I do som...

2018/02/16 - Before it dissapears AR2699

Hi, Last chance for AR2699 Seeing conditions not very good, so the SSSM had to work hard to find a decent slot. Equipment: 80mm f/6 - Quark - Focal Reducer - ASI-120MM-S Processed with AS!3, Imppg & Gimp AR2699 - 11h08 UT 2018-02-16_T_11-08UT.jpg Some Fireworks at the edge 11h27UT 2018-02-16_T_11-27...

Re: Processing issues. What next?

Hi, most of the time my workflow is AS!3 -> IMPPG -> Gimp. Gimp I use for final touch up, framing and colouring. In most cases that is more than enough (I use the latest Beta version of Gimp that is capable of handling full 16bit TIFF files) Since I take all my videos in SER format instead of AVI: S...

Re: Processing issues. What next?

What type of mount are you using?
If it is an AZ mount the mount may track, but the image will rotate. (If that is the problem AS!3 might have an experimental function to coop with that, but I never tested it)

2018/02/13 - AR2699

Hi, Another one of AR2699. This was taken with the 80mm f/6 - Quark - Focal Reducer and ASI-120MM-S. Did not use a tilt adapter, to see how bad NR's were going to be. They were there and after the flat still shining thru a bit. That was remover in software with Fast Fourier Transformation method. No...
