Valery,

you are usually producing quality images, but these are exceptional. Seeing was ok maybe is an understatement?
The glow in the CAK is great, granulation: can it be done better and that 0.2A H-Alfa, where did you find that filter ...

Re: AR2718 Sodium and Ha

Have you tried to compare results with both configurations ? Used both combinations (with 2" diagonal in front of the quark) - I find straight thru more stable with the heavy Quark in the diagonal. (always gives me a scary feeling when moving scope back to home position) - seems to give less reflec...

Re: AR2718 Sodium and Ha

Hi Franco, nice images, setups and birds. Any reason why you have the diagonal in the airylab setup? (visual?) For a camera setup I would use a straight thru connection. Do you have possibilities to make white light images of the same scale as with the sodium filter. It would be nice to compare imag...

Re: What camera do you use?

Rainer,

for contrast: firecapture has PreProcessing filter to make contrast changes.
Gamma now seems to work again (maybe ZWO introduced it back?
Brightness can be found in "More" menu.

Re: Ha Quantum filter PE 0.4Å

Hi Rainer, Some comments on the settings: - gamma 50 is ok. For ZWO that means neutral on no gamma correction applied. That is what I prefer. - Exposure time is almost 18 ms. That seems very long. Is the quantum giving such dark images? - Gain setting looks ok to me although not familiar with the AS...

Re: Ha Quantum filter PE 0.4Å

Rainer, can you post the firecapture recording log ( capturename .txt) file with the capture settings? And which version of FC are you using? Think you should use minimum v2.6 x64 (after installing first the latest ZWO camera drivers (V3.0.0.4) Check on https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/software-...

Re: What camera do you use?

Stefan, cameras I use are the ASI120MM-S and the ASI178MM ASI120MM-S: fairly good cam but small sensor size, and gives a lot or NR's. Needs a lot of tilt to get rid of these. Advantage: it is the only ZWO camera I know where high-speed mode does not influence quality. (Has only a 12 bit ADC used in ...

Re: Solar transit composite photo tutorial?

Just one remark I would like to add. If you capture to SER files instead of AVI you can also extract the images with SerPLayer. Very easy, play the video in SER player until you see the "action". Pause, go back to the first frame with the ISS, write down the frame nummer. Go forward and mark the las...

Re: ISS Transit August 7

Thanks Alexandra, Jim and Robert. Was it the clouds that caused your hiccup or just an anomaly? Not the clouds. I had set the camera to high-speed mode to allow faster capture rates. That seemed to be a mistake. The ASI-178 has 3096*2080 pixels, so that puts a lot of stress on the USB 3 and cpu. I h...

Re: ISS Transit August 7

Thanks, well you need some things (and luck) coming together. - A transit needs to happen - Needs to be a good one, with ISS close to earth - Weather - Preparation Preparation could have been better. As you can see from the detail (100% crop) at full resolution, there is still room for improvement D...

ISS Transit August 7

Not much to see on the Sun, but an ISS transit late afternoon. Whole day Sunshine, then clouds started to form and 1 minute before the transit the Sun was still obscured by a thick cloud. Then suddenly it cleared, 1 second transit and a few seconds later another cloud dimmed the image. Because of al...

Hi Jim, have been asked that question myself a few times. I was able to shoot one Moon transit last year, but never got the composite image right. Re: AR12717 With The HaT - 5th August

Mark, Rough seeing! are you running the Hat with a standard Quark? With the 4.3 built in telecentric, instead of a combo and the Airylab 2.7 telecentric. Without reducer that would give f/43 and be fairly high. At least I noticed even going from f/6 to f/8.3 contrast gets better, but also every flaw...

Solar Session August 4 - 2018

Hi, got the Skywatcher 120 out this morning under fair seeing. First did a run with the Quark on AR12717. 2018-08-04-0846_7-Ha-Sun.jpg There are still some NR's visible. Could not get rid of them from the flats (seemed to get worse) and also Fast Fourier Transformation did not completely remove them...

Re: Saturdays Ha and more on the SSM Plugin - 28th July

Hi Mark,

that is an exceptional quality graph you have there. Seldom seen anything like that. How did you configure the plugin. I suppose you have set the discard treshold and recorded several bursts in one capture file? (If not you had exceptional extremely stable seeing ...)
