Re: SSM FC Plugin Problems

Hi Christopher, I did notice that the scale for Input Value in the software is different than the native scale on the SSM suppose you mean this colored indicator? Meter.JPG These values are hardcoded. I already changed it in my source code now to become red below 0.5 instead of 0.6 but haven't publi...

Re: SSM FC Plugin Problems

Hi Christopher, Thanks for testing. This is the way it works: Starting and stopping recording is handled in FireCapture itself, not from the plugin. The plugin will only tell FireCapture when an image can be saved to the recording file. No records will be released until the seeing falls below the th...

Re: SSM FC Plugin Problems

Ok guys, got my pre release ready :band There are still a few issues. One has been sent to Torsten (FireCapture) because it looks like a problem in FC. If you want to try you can find the software on GitHub: https://github.com/paul-db/SolarMonitor/releases/tag/A.01.01 (Download the zip file and unpa...

Re: Altair Hypercam 183M Mono CMOS Camera with ROI

They push the ASI1600 and 174's for solar on the site. I like the 1600 but it has developed a vertical banding issue that no longer goes away (in the summer it was present the first minute or so but disappeared once warmed up). Winter use is a lost cause and even at room temperature it is present. ...

I vote YES. If you need a beta tester count me in! Got my development up and running again with the correct software version and started development again. Need a few days if all goes well to finish this version. (Stripping a lot of unnecassery code that made things complicated ...) Will let you kn...

Re: SSM FC Plugin Problems

Hi Christopher some ideas the SSSMon Plugin won't run a series greater than 1. It doesn't matter how short the delay between captures is set to or how many captures are set in the series, the series will always end after one frame "stopped". Did you check that the capture limit is set to unlimited. ...

Re: Dec 26 Prominence Animation

Christopher, yes that SSM pluging can give a problem. If you startup FC and the pluging is still enabled it will freeze capturing. Just go to to plugins, unselect it. FC will then work ok, then you just select the plugin again and everything works. Had the same problem, and it took a while before i ...

Re: ZWO ASI290MM is too slow in the FireCapture V2.6.08

Gamma does not affect the fps Sorry Valery but it DOES when it is applied in software on the frame before it it is saved to disc. Try it with a fast camera and larger sensor an you will notice howmany frames are dropped (and not because of a slow disc). Every frame needs some time to be handled and...

Re: ZWO ASI290MM is too slow in the FireCapture V2.6.08

Maybe you have some other parameters set in FC that influence speed? -USB bandwith -Gamma: if set, disable it. Since ZWO removed that from the driver, Torsten built a software solution in FC. If you are running on the edge of speed in your PC that can reduce capture speed. (Software gamma can always...

Re: ZWO ASI290MM is too slow in the FireCapture V2.6.08

Hi Valery, You are running at max speed with the 12 bit ADC. At high-speed you use the 10bit ADC and then you get 170fps. Should be possible to select this in FC as well (at least with my cams I can), but it is hidden in the camera control panel behind the "gear" icon. Just press that one for specif...

Re: New camera but which one?

Hmmm, very strange that a recent laptop would not have USB3 connections. On laptops USB3 ports are not always blue. They might have a superspeed label next to them, which is also USB3.

Re: New camera but which one?

Bart is right. Does not make sense to cripple an expensive camera with slow USB connection.
Good results with a 80mmf/6, Quark and ASI120 are possible if the Sun cooperates. Just have a look (one of the first I took with that equipment).

Re: New camera but which one?

Done the calculation once how far the sensor diagonal could be tilted before moving out of the critical focus zone, but will have to redo it. (Lost in my never ending pile of rubbish). Even when using a focal reducer behind the Quark, bringing it back to f/12, still needs a considerable amount of ti...

Re: New camera but which one?

Yes the ASI120 is famous for Newton Rings, but a tilt adapter will do. You probably will need a lot of tilt. (At least I do have with mine, still surprised the complete field of view is still sharp)

Re: New camera but which one?

Don't forget the Quark has a 4.3 telecentric built in already. If you have a Continuum or other white light solar filter, use that on the Explore Scientific scope. No barlows, no Quarks. You should have nothing but the telescope and the camera. Be CAREFULL and make sure you have a decent whitelight ...

The only problem is that when I clicked through the frames, they went two at a time, so I had to mark all the even-numbered bad frames, then go back and mark all the odd-numbered bad frames. Is there any trick that lets you step through the images one at a time? Bruce, if you click on the frame sli...

Hi Bruce,

did you try the "Global" parameter in Quality estimation. Might be wrong but thought that could help in siturations like that. (Or passing clouds)

Re: AR2718 Sodium and Ha

Have you tried to compare results with both configurations ? Used both combinations (with 2" diagonal in front of the quark) - I find straight thru more stable with the heavy Quark in the diagonal. Re: AR2718 Sodium and Ha

Hi Franco, nice images, setups and birds. Any reason why you have the diagonal in the airylab setup? (visual?) For a camera setup I would use a straight thru connection. Do you have possibilities to make white light images of the same scale as with the sodium filter. It would be nice to compare imag...
