Re: AR2713 Saturday June 16th

Great shot Franco.

PS:
looks as if I am missing the action. Still in hospital, but recovering.

Greetings to all

Re: Question

Hi Derek,

on my list of todos (when back from hospital) is to make a series of flats with 10 to 15 minute time-intervals, and do this in different Quark rotations.

Re: absolute point of focus processing technique

Hi Bruce, Pixel Scale in " can be calculated as follows (if I remember correctly): 2*ArcTan(" PixelSize in Micrometer "/ 1000/2/" Focal Length in mm" )*206265 Seeing Value: that is difficult. You have an average seeing for your location (meteoblue gives some indication) but in lucky imaging you prob...

Re: absolute point of focus processing technique

Yes I tried, but had to find out the alternatives in Gimp first (not same commands). It is a lot of work and it works. But if it is really so much better than other sharpening techniques? Probably, but I did not get bettter results (but thats probably me, giving up too fast)

Re: Question

Have you noticed if the foggy areas always appear in the same locations ?
Looks like they are, but not always present. No time for further testing in the coming weeks, so have to "freeze" this subject for at least a month.

Yes it was taken with the Quark, but believe me, you don't want to see the raw images ... Here is an example Bad.jpg The tree has produced many fruits, but not every year. (normal for Walnuts) Not very old, i gues around 80 years. It got shoestring fungus (Armillaria mellea) (Probably the roots were...

Re: Question

Wel it might very well be. (the contamination in not on the outside, and if you put some gentle pressure on the red filtter in the back it seems to change, at least I think)

Hi, some from yesterday which came out "reasonable". 2018-06-06_T_11-36-34-0452_HA_lapl5_ap35_conv.jpg 2018-06-06_T_11-10-20-0084_HA_lapl5_ap13_conv.jpg at least one who was happy with the weather Exp_20180606_0020_01.jpg Unfortunatellty the nice walnut tree did not produce leaves this year, and has...

Re: Question

Thanks Alexandra. Yes sometimes AS!3 has problems stacking, but in this case seems to be in the capture. Have a look at the following image. This is a sceenshot of SER player showing 1 image from each video. Using the tools menu i altered gamma to get some more contrast. You can see the Quark is not...

Question

for the ones that know a lot more than I do ... Did some capturing today under a bright blue sky, seeing could be better, with the Skywatcher 100 f/8.3 and the "bad" Quark to do some tests again. Made some flats to get rid of the uneven images and other defaults in the filter. When looking at the fo...

Re: Outreach with firecapture/pst?

No way you can get surface and proms in one exposure. For proms you need to turn up exposure, surface detail will be higly overexposed and your histograram way over 100%, but that is the only way to do it. Brightness level between proms and surface is too big. You have to combine separate exposure i...

Re: strange things!!!!!!

Hi Bruce, the LS50 is know for its very limited backfocus. So placement of the camera looks ok to me. Did some reading on barlows and the LS50 and if I understand it correctly some place the barlow before the diagonal. To get necessary infocus that makes sense to me. Only thing I don't know if it wi...

Ok. Now I see. Are you able to get focus with an eyepiece in the barlow? Normal barlows or Powermates (telecentric)

AR2712 - 20180530

Hi, Nice blue sky, but by the time I had set my equipment outside, clouds rolled in. Some patches between the clouds but with very bad seeing. Getting focus was almost impossible, but AstroGenika with focus aid did very well. Just when a small hole in the clouds appeared, seeing seemed to freeze for...

Re: strange things!!!!!!

hi, thats ok. Well don't think you can get your camera closer. The distance from sensor to where it touches the black ring on the blocking filter is 12.5 mm (There is one way to shorten, but then you need to unscrew the front plate from the camera, and find an adapter that fits that thread on the ca...

Re: Daystar Quark Bundle

Hi Mike, I have that same Daystar bundle scope, a 2" diagonal and the Quark. Using the diagonal and the Quark in the diagonal + Televue Plössl 32mm i get into focuse when the scale on the focuser is around 27 mm. If the Televues are parfocal should be the same for the 40. This can differ a bit due t...

Re: Sunspots AR2712 & AR2711, Full Discs, HA & CA | May 25th 2018

Hi Marty, you'r right. The full size ones look a lot better. Seems to be some pattern in the images which is not visible at full resolution but gets intensified with resizing the image. What camera did you use? I see such problems very often with my ASI178, but then it is a sort of crosshatch patter...
