Wow thanks everyone, this is more than I expected!
I knew I couldn't accomplish this using the 'projection' method.

My scope is a coronado solarmax II 60 mm can this be done? I also have and use a 90 mm refactor in which I use for solar projection and also for visual using a badder Planetarium film, I find it good for sun spots but never can I see the 'mottled texture'.

Actually the camera was for light astronomy photography as I'm starting an astronomy club here at my local school. Thought I could use it for solar too. Here's my setup. It's not as elaborate as some of the others posted here but it works for me.
Coronado 60mm Solar Max II, DBK 41AU02.AS ccd camera, Astro-Tech Voyager Alt Az Mount with JMI micro-slew drive.

Ok we had a quick sunny break today 20min to be exact.

Adjusted the exposure level in IC software it helped a lot. Now to get the focus?

What's the next step?

its an illusion due to your foreground vision. The Sun and Moon are exactly the same size anywhere in the sky. Use your pinky or thumb to cover the Moon or Sun at Sunset or Sunrise, moonset/moonrise and then again when either are overhead. They are always the exact same size... That wouldnt make an...

what is this about the Sun not being as big at 3 oclock as it is at sunset? Its always the same size. What do you mean?

well, it depends on which capture program you are using. If IC capture which came with the DBK camera, there should be an exposure, gain and saturation control on the capture screen. If your using some other program to capture these images, then I dont know. I strongly suspect something is fishy he...

that looks to be extremely overexposed which will never focus. Try turning the exposure down to as low as it will go and then up until you just see the Sun.
