Re: Alignment procedure for EQ6-R Pro question

Hi Franco, my Skywatcher Az-Eq6 has a 'solar track' option. It doesn't need alignment in that case and you can select 'solar guiding rate' with it. I'd expect you can do the same with your mount. In addition I recently acquired the Hinode Solar Guider which is just perfect because it eliminates the ...

Re: A big solar newton for ultra narrowband imaging, possible?

Good luck with grinding your own mirror, Bart. Have done this loooong time ago. Fascinating experience to be able to obtain such high accuracy with so little technical means. With your own mirror for a solar Newton, observing will be even more satisfying!

Re: A big solar newton for ultra narrowband imaging, possible?

@Bart: A small secondary only to some (minor) extent could replace the 1.6mm DOT pinhole - the pinhole is only 1.6mm. A small secondary would be something like 20mm minor axis. Moreover, the DOT pinhole is mounted in a quite complex structure made of copper, with water cooling channels, silvering an...

Great resolution, Alex. Could you describe in more detail parameters (aluminized/unalluminized mirror, truss/full tube, camera, exposure time, etc...)?

Thanks, Laura

Re: Citizen Science Update

Hello Stu, having a 'ProAm' or 'Science Data' section in addition to what we have would probably be a good idea. There a discussion about standard protocols may also be well placed, maybe even a pro could take part in the discussion from time to time. As a result a guideline for science imaging for ...

Hello, thanks for the report on the meeting with the professionals. This sounds like there is some general interest which is great! Although it may sound a bit less enthusiastic I think that we should have a few things in mind: * Amateurs, and most of us here at SC, are used to and interested in gene...

Re: Citizen Science

Dear Stu, Mark, and Alexandra, that is an excellent initiative. In this forum there is worldwide expertise at a very high level available so chances to obtain interesting data for science may be quite good. The question will actually be where - from the professionals - the interests are, and if ther...

Re: HR images of AR2720 Aug 25, C14 EdgeHD versus 300 mm solar scope challenge@

Christian, maybe Baader would be willing to produce some test sheets with OD2.5 if there is sufficient interest. That's one of the reason why I mentioned my earlier contact with Thomas Baader ;-) If he would see that there is a sufficient number of people interested and also able to get hires narrow...

Re: HR images of AR2720 Aug 25, C14 EdgeHD versus 300 mm solar scope challenge

That is a great comparison, Christian. And it underlines my conclusions when I compared my images with the EdgeHD11 / AstroSolar3.8 with those. made with your solar newton: with the AstroSolar I do not short enough exposure times. Some time ago I had asked Thomas Baader about a lower OD AstroSolar f...

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

Hi Lou, you may consider emailing Frederic Jabet, vendor of Genika Astro and owner of Airylab, and ask. I have done so before, and he always was very supportive with issues I had with my setup. You are right, it is paid software but it is not that expensive (70€),and for the price you also get suppo...

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

Hi Lou, thanks for the clarification. That's really a pitty. Actually, my impression is that Spinaker is much better software than the old one, but that doesn't help here. Maybe there is USBVision standard compatible software on the internet which may be useful? I completely understand that you don'...

Re: Advice on Firecapture/FLIR Spinnaker SDK ?

Hello Lou, did you try to run your camera with the Flycapture software? I know that some of the older cameras (I have a ICX445 monochrome GiGe Blackfly camera) appea to run with both Spinaker and Flycapture software. Flycapture drivers were acceptef by FireCapture (at least GIGE)... Otherwise, I am ...

Re: First worthwhile results from a high res set up

Great 'first worthwhile light' Stu! Impressive that you get images at that focal ratio. In continuum imaging with my 11 inch I usually work at f/D=22 with my IMX174 camera. If you wanted to try that the Baader 0.7 refucer behind the etalon would get you there... Good luck for your next solar session...
