Re: strange things!!!!!!

Denababy - You are still using an extremely short exposure time. Move that up to at least a couple of milliseconds until we get this figured out. You will need to drop your gain accordingly to keep the image brightness from clipping. Always keep your histogram up (though you can shrink its height co...

Re: It is all in the detail.

I loaded the image into Matlab and split it into two images. In one case I kept the even numbered lines and interpolated the odd ones and in the other I kept the odd lines and interpolated the evens. Odd lines kept: OddInterp.png Even lines kept: EvenInterp.png As you can see, the even line image is...

Re: It is all in the detail.

The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the image, was a camera with a interlaced chip. Good call. It does appear to be interlaced. It's almost as if two different images are recorded. Is it possible that the wrong camera was selected in setup? Normally if my camera is connected when I fire...

Re: It is all in the detail.

That doesn't look like a magnification or focus issue to me. The disk appears to be in good focus. That pattern is certainly strange though. That looks electronic to me. How did the image look on the monitor as you were making the capture? The one thing that I see a little odd is the 0.1 ms exposure...

Re: Sunday 13 May full disk and active region

Thanks Mark. Matt - I bought the LS80 in July of last year, just before the eclipse. I wasn't sure if I wanted a dedicated solar telescope at that point, but since then I have probably used (and posted pictures from) the solar scope about 10x what I do with my C8. I have been very favorably impresse...

Rainer -

I noticed it as I was processing the image. I thought it looked like one of the characters from the early video game Space Invaders

Thanks everyone.
Apparently this prominence was the result of a new active region just coming around the corner. There are some nice satellite images of it today

Re: Halpha sun of May 8th

Stéphane You might want to try Mark Townley's trick of applying a heavily median filtered version of the image to act as a flat. He has videos on his site. Basically the process involves making a duplicate layer in Photoshop, then applying a heavy median filter to the image. What you want to do is m...

A fleeting prominence

It turned out to be better for me to work from home today. The sky was clear, so I had to sneak a quick peek at noon. Much to my surprise, there was a very nice prom putting on a show. By the time I could get the camera (only about 10 minutes) it had dimmed noticeably. When I took a break from work ...

Re: AR2706 21 april

Thanks Bruce! And thank you for the tips. Just checked and in preview I have now set the preview framerate at max. Interesting in how you focus using the histogram. I tune the etalon to the point where it gives the most contrast, that I can clearly see on my screen even with less good seeing. I wil...

Re: AR2706 21 april

Great view in that DS image! If the seeing is far from optimal, I really struggle to get the right focus, even with Gamma set at zero. For me, the frame rate of the camera is an important factor in focusing. I'll reduce the ROI for a bit if I have to in order to get a frame rate of at least 30/sec s...
