Re: Lenses for changing PST Focal Length

Hi

https://america.optosigma.com/spherical ... oated.html

I have recently noticed in the 50mm size they do negative plano-convex up to -300mm fl so you could collimate up to a F15 telescope for a PST Mod.

lASER2000 distribute the lenses in the UK.

Re: 127mm Meade Triplet Mod

Hi I have lent all my solar bits and telescopes to Rod to play with. From his investigations with the ED 2x Barlow I was observing through the bare PST Etalon at F30. So it seems to perform well in that configuration. Look forward to a stage2 mod with 25.4mm Bobs H-alpha 1.5A Comb Blocker filter or ...

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

Hi I am in the process of doing the same PST 'Combat'. Now I have a new ITF, things are 'clear' ! What I wish to do is the obvious mod to use PST as a Quark and use it on various scopes, including my AR152 F/6.5 My 'practical' questions: 1. Do I need to warm tube to unscrew it from PST? I do not wis...

PST 'Combat'

Hi I have removed my PST etalon from the black box. Replaced the front collimator lens with the Omega Bobs 25mm 40nm ERF, tilted. Stops far IR the Baader 35nm does not and has less reflection than the Baader. I have used it on its own at 127mm. Use with a Baader 2" UV-IR filter in front for spreadin...

Re: PST Black Box Mods

Hi

The problem with the 127mm was contrail sourced clouds causing veiling glare.

With a clear sky between clouds the view is fairly black. Just a bit of glare opposite the Sun out of field.

Re: 127mm Meade Triplet Mod

Hi The focusser tube extends 7ish cm beyond the extension tube stack with UV-IR at the front. In my collection of filter step rings there was a 49 to 43 which screwed on the front seems about right to mask reflections. I gave a second coat of Black2 to the bodge stop in front of the PST. It was clou...

PST Black Box Mods

Hi As part of doing a set up for various Stage 1 Mods I have done a few things to the black box. I managed to get the side panel off. Just had to drill of one head so a new set of screws. Some of the grease on the slide had migrated to the prism faces, or careless handling. Using it on the Sun with ...

Hi First light with the PST Mod: The Sun looked like the first solar picture in Pedros Post after any equipment images. https://solarchatforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=26149 And with the Bobs filter 1 placed on the Beloptic KG3 under the eyepiece the surface looked similar to the first orange sun wit...

Vixen VMC110 PST mod

Hi I bought this rather than a hard to find now big F10 100mm refractor for a first PST Mod as its easy to store and move about. It was a bare dealer return? at a good price. The good thing is learning about all the baffling needed to achieve a black field. Being a commercial scope the secondary and...

127mm Meade Triplet Mod

Hi I had second try with this PST Stage 1 mod. After the first try I took the 2X ED barlow apart and Black2ed the holder. Also the insides of the 4 2" etension tubes holding a front 2" filter, Baader 35nm. This reduced the scattered light. I have a 90mm F6.7 I bought a couple of Astro-Boot 1.25" 1.5...

Hi Mark,

You are right that even a 2" -200mm f lens will only use the middle 20mm at F10.

Re: Maksutov 180/1800 Modification?

Hi Christian, I have gone back to my attempt to graph the Maksutov 180/1800. Complicated diagram. I overlooked the parallel beam out of the lens was bigger than the 20mm PST aperture so vignettes as you point out. Anyway I have found a -200 2" lens from Laser 2000 in the UK https://www.laser2000.co....

Re: PST mod options and questions

Hi I used a tip from Mark T on a Vixen 110VMC in order to get a PST to reach focus. Took the first collimating lens out of the PST and moved it to be just after the rear baffle tube opening in the centre of the mirror. I can just reach focus, wobbly end of the Vixen focusser range, but the PST focus...

Tilt needed on a front ERF?

Hi I am mounting a front 100mm aperture ERF on a 110mm aperture F9.4 telescope 1035mm Focal Length telescope, stopped to about F10 by moved forward collimator lens, which is a PST Mod. How much do I need to tilt the ERF? Does the reflection need to be outside the focal plane image or some point in f...

Re: PST Mod Reflections back off the Blocking Filter

Hi Had some Sun yesterday, Normal contrail based clouds over Derbyshire and some cloud. I had tried moving the PST etalon screw as adjustment near the one end but decided to move it back as reflections moved about a lot. I removed the Beloptic KG3 from before the etalon and put it on the eyepiece wh...

Re: PST Mod Reflections back off the Blocking Filter

Hi Ken,

If there are no pins and groove in some how is the prism assembly constrained to be in the right position as it slides?

Were the first ones with the Gold/reddish objectives made in Mexico?

Does the serial no indicate where they were made? And the mechanism details inside?

Re: PST Mod Reflections back off the Blocking Filter

Hi Ken Its not my blog. The prism assembly is upside down. Clearly the pins must slide in a slot and the block sit on the flat base. In this Post there is an image of the base with the prism assembly removed, the screw is still there, and you can see the slot. www.cloudynights.com/topic/530890-newbi...
