Re: Vixen VMC110 PST mod

Hi Had a session though windy and almost no proms so nothing to see really. When AstroRod borrowed my laser pointed remote thermometer his highest reading from the 6" Zeiss with internal ERFs was 24C looking into the eyepiece. He bought a UV meter and that showed lower readings up the eyepiece than ...

Re: PST Blocking Filter modification unit by AOKSwiss

Hi I have moved the PST Collimator lenses out of the Etalon. I have put a tilted Omega Bobs 40nm ERF in place of the Collimator lens. This works up tp 127mm in my experience, though I have a tilted 2" Baader 35nm futher up the focusser with a 48 mm to 43mm step down ring as a baffle in front. And I ...

Re: 127mm Meade Triplet Mod

Hi Tried the Omega Bobs 1.5A filter as a replacement Comb Blocker. I first tried on the Vixen VMC110 and with the filter well tilted to get its features out of field I got the proms with the PST tuner further round than normal. Had to move to a prtable mount the get a glimpse in the 127mm over a tre...

Re: 2" thread/M48 thread

Hi

More playing about the Revelation extension tube does screw into the AOK Swiss PST front adapter, the Black2 paint making it tight.

Re: 2" thread/M48 thread

Hi I have been trying to mount the PST Etalon in a 2" focusser, with the Collimator lens in a 1.25" barlow nosepiece suspended inside and a 2" extension on the front for a possible 2" ERF or just an extra baffle for the Sun cone. Photos to come. The Revelation 2" extension threads onto a Guan Sheng ...

Re: 2" thread/M48 thread

Hi

Baader use a different thread on their 2" extension tubes to Revelation ones.

Revelation M48 to T2 seem OK to me.

I am thinking of using T2 instead for a DS as it seems to be more 'standard'.

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

Hi If you are getting a coloured glass ERF it will absorb 66% of the visible light, if its UV-IR coated. A 2" Baader 35nm will only absorb 6%? of the light and reflect the rest. And pass only 10% of the visible as opposed to 33%. Astrograph sells 6" refractors with a Baader 35nm as the ERF. If you a...

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

Hi My link was from a couple of years ago! Remember the Comb Filter is at an angle which you want to keep if you drill it out. To throw reflections off axis, which you can see if you took the PST Black Box plate off. Also the pentaprism is set at an angle for the same reason. All the photos of an or...

Re: On the sun's limb on July 25

Hi I am still in modding mode. Mainly baffling out stray light as I like good contrast. I have a little QYH but failed to find focus in one try on the PST some time ago. I might try sketching. As the Sun is dynamic its just nice looking. My one bodge try on the 127mm at F30 what I could see was comp...

Re: On the sun's limb on July 25

Hi I was doing a first test of a 90mm F6.7 with a 4x Barlow and a straight through PST Etalon on the 25th late morning in the UK. I could see a region, sort of hedge prominence, on the bottom right for me, about twice the height of the spiricules. Does that sound about right based on images taken? A...

Re: Vixen VMC110 PST mod

Hi I tried spacing the black box further back with T2 extension tubes but outside of focus range then. So I must be near to the 200mm backfocus requirement. I have put a 20mm washer in the back of the main baffle tube to see if makes any difference to incoming off-axis sunlight glare or reflections ...

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

Hi The AR90 looks a good choice as available new. I never came across it when looking for a OTA. I would first use it with the 2" UV-IR placed up the tube where its just under fully illuminated. The dielectric filters only absorb a bit of energy in the coating. For the space telescope I used for an ...

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

Hi Read this post about PST safety www.diane-neisius.de/coronado_pst/index_E.html I got an adapter from the PST front thread to M48 so I can put a 2" Baader 35nm and/or a Belpotic 2" KG3 with UV-IR blocking at the front to make the PST safe. My original PST with the ERF on the front is rusted so Rod...

Re: Today's "slow" SUN (20190718)

Ah

No wonder I was struggling to see proms testing the Vixen VMC110 mod today.
At least I could see what was there.

Ripped the bodged on Svbonny UV-IR filter to try next time.
Maybe it will work transposed to an old Celestron filter mount with room to tilt it.

Re: PST Black Box Mods

Hi Found the old eyepiece barrel with stop in. With the top blocker unit removed and holding the stop, 4.5mm, about where the focus will be you cannot see the inside of the mirror baffle tube. I assume its masked by the first stop in front of the moved forward Collimator lens. So as much baffling do...

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

Hi, DO NOT use absorbtive colour filters as ERFs AFTER an objective as they absorb heat. They are only safe mounted in front of an objective. Dielectric filters are safer after an objective as they reflect most of the energy they are not designed to let through. An external dielectric Baader D-ERF o...

Re: Location of Gasspath

Hi Its the distance the barlow is from the focal plane which matters. I have found, with measurements on stars by AstroRod, that placing a 2" 2x ED barlow in front of the PST Etalon, that because there it is about 200mm effectively from the focus of the re-focussing lens focal plane it actually give...

Hi Mark, I have a focus. Compared to AstroRods bigger Zeiss it seems OK, dimmer and less contrast, in light of the smaller aperture and secondary obstruction. Hi I have been thinking about moving the PST Collimating lens forward to get 200mm inside the objectives primary focus.
