Re: Pedro Ré | Solar Astrophotography (August, 2015)

Amazing Pedro, Alexandra and I are in your neighbouring country of Spain and have just logged on to see the posts on the forum (a little less than we were expecting, probably due to the not-perfect solar weather). Now knowing you better, with this video we were whisked back into your observatory, wi...

Quick look (Evening Cak)

Evening everyone. Since Alexandra has been playing with her new toy yesterday and this morning (but didn't achieve anything worth posting from this morning), I thought I better get out my agricultural set up, pinch the Cak filter and remember how to have a look myself. Perhaps evening viewing wasn't...

Too sunny not to join in....

Ok, the boss wanted to be out at the crack of dawn and the weather forecast was wall to wall sunshine today, so I had to join in. I got my telescope out, nicked the CAK wedge off Alexandra and took lots of images at prime focus to merge together. Now it's been 9 months since I have done any solar vi...

Pacman strikes in Cak

With the skies clearing and some time for Alexandra and I to set up each of our scopes this evening, I managed some Cak images as usual. Unfortunately I don't seem to have mastered the art of taking a whole disc yet and have created Pacman. Better luck next time. 2014-06-29 CaK Full disc.jpg The det...

Re: Waste of money

Hi Darren... Out of curiosity, how much of an exposure increase was needed when imaging with the Kline filter? Brain It did make it darker but I can't remember the exact exposure I had to increase it by, but in IC capture I had to increase the exposure "two clicks". Thanks everyone for supporting t...

Waste of money

Well Alexandra drove us to the UK Astronomy show yesterday, and yes we had a great time, but she did insist on buying a Baader K Line filter at £229 to attach to the nosepiece to "aid contrast" when using my Cak filter B1800. All I can say is Solar Wifes are expensive and this "nag nag" is a a wast ...

We have a new programme on BBC 2 here in the UK called "Coast - Australia". Your pictures must have been used as inspiration as we think of you when we watch an episode.

Mucking about in Cak 17th May

I did the usual imaging in the shadow of Alexandra this morning. I think my focus is a bit off as I can't complain about the seeing and I tried the two methods of sharpening. The prom was a different matter having taken 4 images and tried to merge them. The result looks ok, but not quite up to the r...

Re: Calcium K Sun (Different Sharpening trial)

Perhaps the 3rd image of the 1st set is over-sharpened Mark. I do find the 2nd set a lot softer and more natural to look at though as most of the posters have commented. I will continue with both methods for the next session (which may be a while looking at the forecast). Keep the comments coming......
