Re: Deciding which capture frames to keep

Thanks Alexandra. I was won wondering if the SSM can be used to quantify the quality of my frames such that I would have an idea of what the 25% or 50% bars on my quality graph meant.

Deciding which capture frames to keep

When using Autostakkert, I’m unsure of how to decide how many or what percentage of frames to keep. It appears that the quality graph shows relative quality and not quantitative based on some standard I’m wondering how decisions are made. Also. How many frames are “enough” or even typical? Say I’ve ...

Processed images cannot be resized

Hi all. Sorry to ask so many questions, but I’m very new at all this. As of this afternoon my computer will not let me resize any of the images processed after IMPPG. I’ve tried two different image converter programs and neither of them will even recognize the images. When I right click on the image...

Re: Tried a new technique: Barlow to Quark to Focal Reducer to Camera

Probably a basic question, but can someone explain why the longer focal length , and more gentle light cone creates a more narrow bandwidth at the etalon?

Firecapture dummy cam doesn’t show sun

Question. When I enter the dummy cam mode in Firecapture and click on the sun, I do not get any kind of image to work with. I am using the latest version of the program. Anybody else experienced this, or have any ideas?

Re: Altair Hypercam 183M Mono CMOS Camera with ROI

I just recently purchased an ASI183 mono. I’ve only had a handful of sessions with it, but I’ve seen no banding. I’ve recorded flats, but they are not needed to subtract banding. I’m capturing with Firecapture.

Re: ASI183 FPS and settings

Great suggestions. Thanks. I didn’t realize that the fps were limited by longer exposure times. With 5 ms exposures, I was averaging about 6 fps. With this setting, I had a gain of 45%. Is that alright? Wiith 10 ms , I was only getting 1 fps. I’ll check the speeds I’m getting with and without saving...

Photoshop version and alternatives

Again, I’m just learning Solar image processing. Full versions of Photoshop are beyond my budget. What are the best alternatives for post processing? Photoshop elements? Pixinsight? Other software?

Re: ASI183 FPS and settings

I have a USB3 connection and USB speed is set at 100%.
I have been capturing for 60 seconds.
My laptop has 12GB of RAM. Do you think putting a SSD hard drive might help. My current one is certainly no great shakes.

ASI183 FPS and settings

I'm new to solar imaging and am using an ASI183 right now for full disc with a double stacked 75mm front mounted filters. Setting gain as low as possible to keep the histogram around 80 to 90%, I end up with a gain of around 206 (45%) but am only getting fps ranges of 2 to 6. Comments on these setti...

Re: Learning Firecapture

Thanks. But is it now possible to open Firecapture without a camera connected such that I can see the individual images or video?

Learning Firecapture

So I'm just begging with both Imaging and Firecapture. I'm using an ASI183, and yesterday did my first imaging. Problem is, without my camera connected, I can not open the program. i get the page asking to select my camera, and clicking on ZWO I get a message that it can not find the camera. I can g...

I’m considering the ASI183 for full disk imaging. Has there been any more information on its suitability?
