Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Ok, Keeping the ITF was one of the adapters, so if that's not needed, that solves a lot of issues. At that point, its just the tilt to remove reflections and play with bandpass a bit. Will update when I get it all in and can test again with the tilt introduced, and will remove the ITF. And I'll mak...

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Remove the Itf filter and you will regain a ton of transmission. It is not required since you have an ERF on the face of your etalon, and the 6a blocker is now the new ITF.. Realistically, a baader planetarium D-erf or 35nm h-alpha filter is the icing on this cake; as the maier filter is the limitin...

Re: Sweet spot, banding and tilted etalons ...where are the limits ?

Some questions, if they may be entertained: 1) What's the ideal way to get a larger sweet spot on a rear-mounted etalon (or at the very least, a sweet spot large enough for a narrow FOV to not see the non-sweet spot)? I successfully enlarged the sweet spot on my pst etalon; simply by removing the c...

That is an awersome scope setup mark, and the Solar max double stack is gathering some amazing images that are delightful. Very nice indeed.

What are you going to name it?

Re: Recentering sweet spot possible?

i cannot recommend a glue other than it must be completely vapor free A good pair of tweezers works to remove the retainer ring if you widen them out a bit. I see nothing wrong with the loctite, but it must vapor free. So you may want to contact oliver smie over at beloptik to link you to a good glu...

Re: Feb 26 2021 - Daystar Gemini & Esprit 150

You have a very noteworthy etalon, and the telescope you are using with it is probably the best money can buy. Your processing skill is also up to par with the standard , so I think you are ready to make some time-lapse animations with the Ferrari you have invested in ;) you have mastered the still ...

Re: Recentering sweet spot possible?

If i remember correctly its the same stuff you see on the front on the retaining ring. Glad to see you have decided to take it apart now despite the nightmare you heard about. Remember, the only thing you must fear is dropping something. DO NOT DROP ANYTHING. Lay a soft cushion down on top of whatev...

Re: AR2804 in High Res | Feb 26th 2021

Very nice set Marty. I am struggling with the atmosphere conditions lately on my 127mm, at 60 frames per second with the new camera. Low FPS is a big handicap as well! anything below 150fps is just a hassle when a barlow or high mag is involved. like imaging through the mirage above a fire....

Re: Sweet spot, banding and tilted etalons ...where are the limits ?

Very well reported Christian, and this is unfortunately the humpty dumpty story of solar filters! companies will not throw underperforming glass filters in the trash unless there is a severe defect; companies will attempt salvage of the rejects by allowing an extended acceptable tolerance range. Thi...

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

These two filters seem very far off band and suspect this to be reason for the negative experience using them. These filters were designed for F/5 cone and they stay on band in both my SW F/5 refractors. I will try them again with more transparent Quark. Hope they will work better in a such combina...

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Marting : the two filter parts would fit in this blue fireball adapter to shorten its filter cell.

Just hold them in there with a standard 1.25' retaining ring from a color filter

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Hello, I'm trying to assemble a unit currently. Do you think a 1.7A filter and a standard Coronado BF 5~6A filter will do this? Or does it need to be both filters near 1.7~1A after tilt? I'm trying to currently assemble an ITF (maier I think), 1.7A filter in a tilt chamber of a sky bender, followed...

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Thanks :) What would happen if you used just one of these filters combined with your regular blocking filter, would this reduce the out of band stray light? Alexandra I am not certain; the maier filter has a transmission of 60%, and while it does block IR and UV; i am thinking it may be marginal. I...

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Having a 0.9A to 1.5 A etalon stacked on a "main" etalon is certainly a good idea. A 1.5 A + 0.6A combination results in a selectivity similar to a 0.3 simple stack etalon. Hello Christian and thank you for joining in on this conversation, everyone on this forum values your contributions; I will sh...

Re: blocking filter chit chat chop chop - lets cut it out.

Been there, done this - several years ago with exactly the same Andover, but with 12.5mm filters - of the same size as front BF in a standard Quark. Tried with Quarks. No gain at all, just makes a picture much dimmer and much less uniform than in original Quarks. These filters were constructed for ...

Re: Today's SUN (20210222) | LUNT152 images

have you tried an experiment with a different blocking filter on your Sm90II. From my experience with coronado parts, they are truly reliant on this factor. If your blocking filter is not matched to the etalon you get exactly this problem. How does your BF30 look when you point it at a white lamp? H...
