Surprise sun and AR2733, 25th Jan

Forecast for cloud rain etc, so amazed to see the sun and an active region! Hazy and low but definitely a sunspot

20th Jan, nearly granulation

So little activity I tried white light close up. I think I need 25° altitude to resolve granulation well and below 1 arc sec on the SSM. Today was cold with a light breeze and the SSM was below 1 arc sec but the altitude at midday only 12°, so a bit hopeful! Robert https://farm5.staticflickr.com/485...

Re: Today's SUN (20190110) | LUNT60 SS & DS

I have a love-hate relationship with DS etalons. The one I tested in not that good, I spent a long time adjusting everything and I cannot see a big difference I used to think that but Mark alerted me to the possibility of prominences and surface in the same shot. Same exposure for both (one shot on...

imPPG would be a good thing to try. Not sure about 36,000 images though. Works brilliantly for smaller numbers.

Re: Dec 26 Prominence Animation

Christopher, yes that SSM pluging can give a problem. If you startup FC and the pluging is still enabled it will freeze capturing. Just go to to plugins, unselect it. FC will then work ok, then you just select the plugin again and everything works. Had the same problem, and it took a while before i...

5th December clear sky

A clear sunny day and Spaceweather saying no sunspots, but I had a go at a full disk at about 9° altitude today and was surprised by the active area. I also wanted to try to locate Mercury in daylight but it was hazy and I failed at that but did find Venus. In the process using the ED100 with ND5 as...

Re: The "first" coronado pst mod.

Yes, lots of activity then with webcam mods as well and stacking software. And the ban on CN was a big stimulus for Stephen Ramsden to start Solarchat which has been amazing.
