Re: DSLR full disk HD mode 31/08/12
To take a flat in full disk mode you take essentially five out of focus sun images, one in each corner and one in the middle. Then combine the files in photoshop using lighten. this will produce a flat that is filled in and can then be used as a real full field flat. B) Chris I have a coupole of fl...

Ok - so I thought I would try my hand at greyscale with some data from today. Have lots of interesting stuff but just too tired to mess with it all. I messed up my flats so sharp eyes can see some ERings. Hate them things

I am giving it at Dragon*Con this weekend and at a NOVAC meeting in September. Your name and image has been seen...

Artsy Arcs
I see that the "artsy Arcs" are getting really popular and there are several methods to produce these using brushes which work nicely. Even with my Wacom Tablet my hand is not always very steady and I want total control over the result. So I threw together this tutorial that uses my favorite tools -...

Complete Ring of Fire HD movie
This movie was created by my good friend Mike Mayda using an Epic-X camera on a Takahashi EM-200 german-equatorial mount with a Nikon 300mm f/2.8 lens and doubler through a white solar filter. Frame rate was 3 fps. This was worked over in Nuke-X to add color and sharpen it a bit, and then slowed ano...

Ring to 3rd Contact Video
Hello Everyone,
Had a great time at the Chico Observatory with Alex Filippenko and 2500 - 2700 attendees. Weather was fantastic but it was not quite a bullseye. This is a bit more than double speed.

First Solar Image of 2012
Hello Eveyone, It has been several months since I was able to get the time to do a bit of solar imaging. Life has been busy (I became a grandpa two weeks ago). I did get a few minutes on a Prom last Sunday and spent only about 1/2 hour in the processing so it is nothing special. It just felt good to...

Re: First effort Combining Two Images.
[quote]Excellent result with blazing colors! An image to be proud of for sure. The only advice I would give is a slight adjustment to the mask to smooth out the transition just a bit. Again congrats on a very fine image . . . Kindest Regards, Ken, if you had any idea how many times I watched that s...
