Re: AiryLab HaT Handle Mod

I have to admit I coughed up the $$$ for the ADM handle for my C-11, and the possibility of a hardware store alternative didn't even occur to me. Oh well. It does make a huge difference though - much easier and more secure to carry around.

More Jupiter and Saturn

We were lucky to have very good weather for the 12/21 conjunction - quite a sight! This was taken with an Explore Scientific ED127, Skyris 445 camera, and 2x Powermate. 200/1000 frames stacked in AS!, sharpened in AstraImage, and some global gamma etc adjustments on Photoshop to bring up Saturn a bi...

Jozef,

Very cool! We tried to see it (the dust storm) on the 17th but got the wrong side of the planet.

He will need a UV IR CUT filter, true?
Does this make a difference for narrow-band solar imaging? I recently got one for color planetary imaging but haven't tried it for Halpha.

Stunning - much better than I've managed with my C11!
Do you find that the UV/IR filter helps a lot?

More Comet NEOWISE

Hopefully everyone is not too sick of seeing NEOWISE pictures yet! These were all taken with a Canon EOS 6D at ISO 1600, and a Zeiss 135 mm lens at f/2. The 1-4 second exposures were on a tripod, the 30 second exposure was tracked. This comet was a much needed treat for covid summer! Thanks for look...

Powering Point Grey Grasshopper

I've seen several posts here (mostly Mark T I think) referencing the use of batteries to power video cameras with lower noise, even with gain turned up. I was wondering what the best way to do that is. I currently have the ac to 12V power supply that Point Grey sells, and could plug that into someth...

Re: Filter tilting unit

I was wondering the same thing for Halpha, as was discussed here: http://www.astrosurf.com/viladrich/astro/instrument/solar/FP-contrast.htm I did find this link for the Skybender, but have not purchased anything yet. Does anyone have any thoughts on the viability of this scheme for H or Ca? http://w...
