Re: AR12781 Nov. 6 in Ha
Both of these images are absolutely stunning. Both of them and especially the first one of AR12781 show the awesome power of the local solar magnetic field to shape the solarscape around those spots. These are both professional quality and works of art! Great work, Dave. I wish I could see this muc...

Probably the largest sunspot region of the cycle, AR12781, making an impressive show this week. There's a nice filament arching over the spots on the left.

I got a full disk and a closeup of AR12755 this morning in between gaps in the clouds. It's a great illustration of how sunspots start at 40 degrees from the equator early in the cycle. Full disk with LS80: SunFullDisk_102224.jpg Closeup of AR12755 with 6" refractor: AR12755_Sun_104401a.jpg

Full disk from today. Just the one tiny active region remnant S6321. No prominences to speak of so I only did the surface exposure.

Not much going on but I replaced my blue glass and wanted to test it. Not a sunspot to be seen. We've now had 268 spotless days this year and on the verge of an historic low. Tomorrow will be 269 spotless days, the most since the year 1913.

Mercury Transit
I changed weekend plans and accommodations and found someone to help care for a family member so that I could be home on Monday morning to try for a transit photo. The alarm went off at 6am and I went to the window and saw thick fog. Felt torn by astroimaging drive and warm bed with hugs, back to be...

I do like the camera's combination of speed, size, SNR, and price. I don't like the Newton's rings, though. Sometimes my images are at odd orientations because I rotate the camera to minimize the interference pattern.marktownley wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:29 am That's a great prom David! Not the Sun, but I used the same setup that I use for the Sun (sans H-a filter) to catch the ISS transiting the crescent moon. It wasn't far from the Sun.

Solar Tadpole-Like Jets Seen With NASA’S IRIS Add New Clue to Age-Old Mystery
Keep an eye out for tadpoles! Scientists have discovered tadpole-shaped jets coming out of regions with intense magnetic fields on the Sun. Unlike those living on Earth, these “tadpoles” — formally called pseudo-shocks — are made entirely of plasma, the electrically conducting material made of charg...
