Nice ones Walter! Stop complaining about clouds, we just got 5.5" of rain here in Phoenix today. In an hour. Those calcium active regions are stunningly beautiful. Now lets put some power on those babies!

Re: UK/Switzerland Newton mod to a solar gun
Walter, nice project. I stripped my 6 inch mirror with undiluted pool acid - HCl. works great, but the fumes will knock you unconscious. ;) You also have to put a black board behind the mirror to boost the contrast. And dont forget the UV/IR blocker! See here: http://schursastrophotography.com/solar...

Philippe, very impressive setup. Your silver covered telescopes look like something they would be releasing into orbit aboard a space craft. You are obviously very into solar work, and your images prove you have years of hard earned experience.

Nice work John! Hard to imagine there are six crew members and some live animals up there too. Maybe they need a solar scope up there too, if we fly you up there, would you set it up for them?

Thanks John, Andy, Matt, Ibbo!
The monsoon clouds are returning and could be weeks before I see the Sun once again. Thank you all once again for keeping me inspired to not give up.

Stunning images. Ive always felt a good shot is one that clearly resolves the spicules on the limb as a forest of spikes. You have done this very well.

Hello Peter! First of all, let me say much of your work I have seen here has really inspired me to work harder and get more out each and every shot. I want to thank you for that. Next, I took the raw avi's, processed 50/1200 with autostakert. In Photoshop I set the brightness to suit the full range,...

I get bad newton rings on my Lunt LS100 ONLY when I tighten down the camera. If I leave it loose, NO rings at all. Maybe you need to loosen up a bit.

Philip , this goes beyond just resolving granulation polygons. Here They look like bubbles with shaded edges. Now all you need to add is an advanced adaptive optics setup.

Superb Walter. Why would just putting in an extension tube between filter elements improve the contrast? Im guessing maybe internal reflections?

Valery, top notch stuff. I always wonder when processing weather or not to make the flareing regions pure white to illustrate the drama of the sun, or to dim them down to stay unclipped. What are your thougths on this?

The Sun Today - Best Seeing of the year so far...
Greetings Solar Friends! Seeing started out bad, and improved over the next hour as the sun rose higher in the sky. Finally, when I put in the 3x Klee the seeing peaked at 3/5. Thats as good as it ever gets here in Payson, so I kept on shooting. One nice bright prom, and several very faint ones with...
