Nice sketch, it's going not appearing. Not long and it will be heading over the other side of the sun.

Re: Thursdays Hazy Sunshine 18th April

Thanks Brian, I need to try a different camera with it to see whether it is a newtons ring type effect. I guess I should also put my Lunt wedge in there too at some point for the white light overview too.

Re: Thursdays Hazy Sunshine 18th April

Thanks everyone. Did take some shots with the Na Quark, but by then the edge of the sun was just a circular saw blade with the seeing. Used with small apertures the Na Quark is one of the most expensive white light solar filters, was even struggling to see the plage through todays haze. Still, gives...

Looks good Jeremy. I've popped it in the mods section.

Can you put the belt on the fine focuser wheel, the reduced gearing might give you a bit more tweakability?

Re: Thursdays Hazy Sunshine 18th April

Thanks guys! You are too kind! I do the same normally Pedro, my 80/600 I run at 60/600 for CaK, I also have my 40/400, then I have the 100/1000 I use, which sometimes I run at 80/1000. It's surprising when you start using and running a number of different scopes how different they all are at CaK. Th...

Thursdays Hazy Sunshine 18th April

Sometimes you know the weather forecast aint what it says it's going to be online; that was what I thought last night when the forecast for today was for cloudless skies, but looking at the various charts my mind was saying haze and low visibility. Indeed when I got up my gut instinct was the case a...

Re: FireCapture: How to get 12bit video.

Hi Paul.

I tried this morning recording as a 16 bit ser file; AS3 shows it as a 16 bit file, and if I select back down to 14 bit then it just clips the image. Recording in FITs it is a true 14 bit rendition of the raw file the camera ADC outputs.

Re: AR2738 in Ca K with TOA 150 and nice details

Thanks Christian. Shame about the Astronomik blue changing. The Baader Blue CCD filter has transmission in CaK but is not as high as I would like. I may try the Astronomik L3 as this seems to extend quite a bit further into the blue. It's a shame the 50.8mm filters from Andover / EO don't fit else t...

Re: Help tweak this PST + SM40II Double Stack?

You aint far off there Marty. Try the positioning of the solar disk in the frame when you image now, my money is get the disk on the right hand side of the frame and the illumination and tuning will all balance out. I'd probably just try and squeeze that reflection a little further to the left of th...

Nice collection stu! Glad you got some sun this morning. I gave up sun today to play good husband duties with the family. Tomorrow I will be playing sunshine assuming these valleys aren't full of fog. Will be nice to get a view before the spot passes over the limb. Don't think we will get any sun on...

You can find the replacements here https://www.andovercorp.com/products/bandpass-filters/standard/600-699nm/ Part No. 656FS02-12.5 I replaced mine with the 25mm version... Hi Mark, What was the reason you have replaced it in your Quark? Valery I wanted the larger versions so it sat higher in the ex...

Yes, spotted the little emerging flux region on GONG this morning. Seems to have formed on the southern edge of the northern coronal hole. Bright point and spot formation seems to be the norm on the edges of coronal holes this solar minimum.

Re: Why my Quark always refused to work...

Hi Raf, I mounted the 25mm andover in the cell from a real cheapie barlow lens (throwing the lens away) and then mounted that on a 2" to 1.25" filter adapter https://www.365astronomy.com/365Astronomy-2-to-1.25-Filter-Adapter.html I then replaced the 2" snout on the Quark with a slightly longer one a...
