Each (unsilvered) mirror reflects 5% of the light, so, 5% of 5% - so overall transmission 0.25% coming through the focuser.

Baader UV/IR is perfectly safe.

A polarising filter to trim brightness,

It really is no different than a solar wedge.

I've recontacted a PST etalon twice and a SM40 etalon once simply by pushing them together with even pressure. Try this first.

Excellent Ken! I use my ED80 stopped down to 60mm regularly for CaK (full disks) and with a 3X barlow for closeups. Maybe use a barlow nosepiece to fill the chip more? Definitely give the DS version a go, looking for the spicule ring is a key that it is working.
