Re: Sun on 13 Feb, and a Pressure Tuner Modification
Thank you all, for your comments. Mark, Franco, have a look here for loudspeaker stuff https://www.flickr.com/photos/74614447@N02/albums. If any questions arise it might be better to mail me privately, after all it's not what Solarchat is about. Mark, I spoke to Roger yesterday about his pressure tu...

Sun on 13 Feb, and a Pressure Tuner Modification
Hello again everyone. It is probably over a year since I last posted on the forum as I have spent the last year in my workshop building loudspeakers. I finished my last pair a few weeks ago and decided to get back to some astronomy. I was encouraged to get back to solar imaging because a friend of m...

Re: A few shots from last week Lunt 152 DSII
Mark, thanks for your comments. Chris, I gave up with the Quark DS'd with the Lunt, in fact I sold it. I just wasn't happy with the results - uneven illumination mainly. The Lunt DS set up seems to be much more consistent and I am much happier with it. I also like the fact that DS'd the fl is still ...

Re: A few shots from last week Lunt 152 DSII
Morning David. The mono image was taken with the ASI290MM camera and a 2x Barlow, and the colour 'mid latitudes' with a 1.6x Barlow lens. I can't honestly say I have noticed a loss of sharpness with DS over SS, but, as you say, the need to use longer exposure times will likely lead to slightly softe...

Re: A few shots from last week Lunt 152 DSII
Thanks Mike. I feel like I have a good set up now and its nice to not have to keep swapping scopes, reducers etc; now it's one scope and 2 cameras and much simpler.

Re: A few shots from last week Lunt 152 DSII
Val, David, Alexandra, Pedro, thanks for your comments. I switched to a ZWO ASI290 MM camera which has 2.9 micron pixels, a bit smaller than the ASI120MM. It is a good match for the focal lengths I use and the increase in resolution is quite apparent. It has a back illuminated chip which may also ma...

I found that I didn't even need the (IMG) bits at the front and end of the hyperlink. Worked a treat.

A few shots from last week Lunt 152 DSII
Now I understand the link to flickr I have some pictures I got last week. All taken with Lunt 152 DSII. The full disc's were taken with ASI174MM and the detailed views with the ASI290MM. https://c5.staticflickr.com/9/8159/27917327924_81e7ed70de_o.jpg Sun 13 July by Gordon Ewen , on Flickr https://c3...

Re: Slightly OT : info request on using Flickr
Mike, I noticed the difference in the BBCode dialogue box compared to Stephen. I have copied and pasted the link but it is the link that shows in Solarchat rather than the image; any advice would be appreciated.

Re: HOW TO USE THE MANY CUSTOM EMBED COMMANDS IN POSTS
Hello Stephen, appreciate the effort you put into this, seems like a lonely task! I could do with some advice on creating the hyperlink. Should I be right clicking on the image as it appears in my Flickr page? When I do this I don't get a dialogue box that shows 'properties', it contains things like...

Re: Crikey, the Sun!
Val, Alexandra, Oivind, thanks for your comments. Oivind, it is a good point to remove the DS unit occasionally as it means that the tuning of the first tuner can be optimised and also it is a reminder of the difference between single and double stack. Your 'lassooed' image is amazingly flat for suc...

Re: Crikey, the Sun!
Thanks for the comments. The uneven illumination is an interesting issue . The second picture was taken on Wednesday and I noticed it was uneven and tried a flat to reduce it but it made it worse ( i get this occasionally). The pictures I shot yesterday didn't show the uneven illumination at all. I ...

Crikey, the Sun!
Well, after weeks of dire weather I have had 2 mornings in a row of clear air and the sun in the sky. It's been so long since I did any solar imaging I thought I might have forgotten how to do it. Fortunately, I hadn't. Here are a couple of images from today; both with the double stacked LS152. Full...

Lou, the fifth image (16w80) is fantastic, excellent resolution with great detail on the limb. Haven't a clue when we are going to see the sun next; it's all thunder and heavy showers here. So, it's good to see what everyone else is up to!

John, welcome to the solar gang! Yes, H alpha scopes don't come cheap. Everyone will tell you to push the boat out and get the best your budget can stretch to......... However, let's go with your $1000. I have used the PST and Lunt LS50 amongst other H alpha kit. For a dedicated scope my view is tha...

Re: Full Disk Camera Recomendation
If you want a decent full disk image without stitching I would argue that frame rate isn't that important. You will be operating at a moderate focal length so the set up will be fairly 'seeing' forgiving. For good resolution of the disc you need to work out what pixel size is optimal and let that gu...

Re: First effort
I forgot to add; be careful using the highlights and shadows. It can work but I generally find adjusting the image with curves is better. One thing worth having a look at is the 'clarity' tool in Lightroom (if you have it), it adjusts the contrast in the mid tones and sometimes it does an excellent ...

Re: First effort
Hello Randall, I would echo the thoughts of the other replies you've had so far. I have a Lunt pressure tuned solar scope and recognise the uneven illumination myself. For what its worth here are some thoughts. I suspect you need to explore the tuning some more and then move the solar disc around on...
