An unusual sight, January 18

Hello again everyone, it's been quite some time since my last post. Given what I observed today I thought it worth getting back to Solarchat. There was a limb feature the like of whiuch I haven't ever seen before in approx 15 years of observing the Sun. Did anyone else see it? You won't need me to d...

Re: First, well second, GIF Animation.

Hello James, I load my gif files into PowerDirector (I'm sure many other video edtiing programmes will work too) and convert the file to MP4. The file size can be manipulated to something you find acceptable.
The weather here has turned grey and rainy, so no animations for a while now.

Starshed animation from July 16, 0830-1330

Hello everyone, the unusualkly fine weather in the southern half of the UK is providing some good opportunities to create animations. Yesterday I captured over 250 video files between 0830 and 1330 before the seeing got so bad I stopped. The video is of the AR 3055 region and nearby limb. You might ...

?July 8 animation from the Starshed

Hello everyone, after a quiet few weeks (yep, I finally got the virus) yesterday was back to business. We had lovely clear skies so it was time to try another time-lapse of the Sun. However, the seeing was c__p! Anyway, here is a link to the animation I got. I shot 200 x 1000 frame videos over 4 hou...

Thanks Stu. It's quite a long day, for sure. My biggest issue has been with guiding. Even with the Hinode I was getting drift on the camera chip. A couple days ago I did a fresh polar alignment to 'excellent' according to Sharpcap. I also had a look at the drift correction in eqmod and made some adj...

Animation from the Starshed, June 17

Today it was almost cloudless from 1000 to early evening, and the temperature hit 33C (!!!), so it had to be a day for a longish timelapse. I started at 1020 and kept going with a video a minute until 1525 when trees interfered with the view. There was some thin high cloud which affected contrast so...

Alexandra, you are right, the significant action was early in the animation. It's just down to luck regarding what occurs during the capture time. I did a couple of runs last week and nothing happened at all..........all one can do is try!

A lovely 'spire prom' May 22

I had an hour or so of mostly clear sky this morning so managed to get some video for a couple of still images, attached.
