Re: Solar glasses availability post-eclipse

Still waiting to hear from Rainbow, but was wondering about other legit suppliers--not sure who they are.

Solar glasses availability post-eclipse

Post-eclipse I'm still doing outreach programs and still get requests for solar glasses, but obviously I only want to give out good ones. Checking around a bit on the web I'm finding suppliers (particularly Rainbow Symphony) are still out of stock---anyone with any clue when we'll start to see genui...

Re: Coronado SM40 and Solarmax II 60mm working great, but why?

I hope you're right, Alexandra. It certainly wasn't anything I did on purpose! I guess this is cosmic compensation for having destroyed a previous SM60 II when it slid out of the mount on to a concrete sidewalk, breaking all (and I mean ALL) of the optical elements. What a horrible sight!

Re: Coronado SM40 and Solarmax II 60mm working great, but why?

Which one? I can believe it with the 60mm BF15, since contrast was so low, but it isn't low when used with the 40mm. The BF5 seems to be working very well with the 60 mm. The BF5 is 17 years old, the BF15 brand new. Je ne comprend pas, at least not yet. I don't think I see, if I'm looking in the rig...

Coronado SM40 and Solarmax II 60mm working great, but why?

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile, but better Ohio weather has me out observing much more. I have a new SolarMax II 60mm DS scope which has had unacceptably low contrast (BF15) and quite an old (but good) SM40 SS (BF5) that has always worked well. I tried various adjustments in tuning the SM60, with ...

Outreach eyepiece for H alpha

I've been using a Coronado 60mm SMII, double stacked, for outreach events. I usually view with a Baader zoom eyepiece. This is fine for me, but (as is normally the case) it is difficult for first time viewers to find the sun, particularly children, even at lowest magnification (28mm I think). I hate...

H-alpha for the sqeamish.....

There's no doubt in my mind that it's a lot easier to see detail through my double-stacked H-alpha scope with some kind of head covering. Usually I just throw a light jacket over my head, which works just fine unless it's really hot. But I do a fair amount of outreach and, although I hate to say it,...

Re: Anyone near Indianapolis?

Not Indianapolis, but Columbus. I could do it, it's only a couple of hours drive. Seriously! Send me details. [email protected]

Shoot, didn't notice this was from December--still need somebody?

Re: Solar glasses order update

Thank you for the information! I think I'll go ahead and buy what I need---Swiss Walter, thanks so much but I suspect the shipping to Ohio. USA would be prohibitive and I hate to deplete someone else's supply. Numerous programs coming up, plus the October eclipse (However brief here!) Oh yes, and SU...

Solar glasses order update

Congratulations on your Tunisia trip! Hate to ask a repetitive question, but what do I need to do to obtain/buy some more solar glasses for my upcoming programs. say 75 or so (if reasonable)? In the "you never quite know what they understood" department, I gave a pair to a young boy, telli...
