Re: How many fps with your high speed camera?

4 GB of RAM is nothing these days as the OS, drivers, services and other background processes can easily already take 2 GB of RAM away, leaving you with just 2 GB of RAM left, which you won't use all, as the OS will start swapping long before that. So that is problem one. The 5400 rpm harddrive is y...

Exactly, in the end it all comes down to budget. If I won the lottery, I know what I would buy in a heartbeat. Alas.... back with two feet on solid Earth and in the end you just have to deal with budget constraints. With the 152 refractor, if only used for imaging, you can still get away with a 2 in...

One thing that I often see overlooked in Quark discussions is the barlow required to obtain the f/r that solid heated etalons want . The OP clearly stated he is looking for an imaging rig and my experience tells me that the quark has limitations as far as imaging goes . Lunt and Coronado products d...

For imaging it's perfectly fine. Others here use such setup on their 152's. I use the 2inch Baader ERF myself with my Esprit 120 and place it in front of the diagonal. Though, I remember Daystar recommend using a front mounted ERF on apertures larger than 120mm. If you want to use this setup for vis...

You sum it up well Rupert and why in the end, since I already own a 120mm scope, I went for the Quark in the end and never regretted it, especially since the only other option at that price was either a PST or the new Lunt 50Pt, which didn't impress me due to their very low resolution. I'd call mine an acceptable SE grade. Needs flats, and I still get some smudged areas in the field. I just work around the issues as they are predictable. If I could have a guaranteed PE grade Quark, I think I'd pay double retail. I think you would pay even more than double. PE grade Ha filters are...

The cooled versions of the ASI174 have been reviewed on CN with indifferent results. It is not just a question of cooling a chip, it is how it is cooled. i.e. unless the cold finger covers the whole chip, the process will not work properly. You then have to make sure the sensor chamber has warming....

There is no camera sadly that can do both planetary and DSO well. Planetary, especially Solar requires high framerate short exposure performance, while DSO is about long exposures.
