Re: Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

Alfred, for solar work I think you have to be absolutely exact in collimation, this is what Christian V told me. Here are some links to my project for you to read: I have used the new improved design as a mask. Here is a fashion show of the Hubby's fine work using blackout material. I use it to cov...

Re: Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

Hi Alfred, My experience so far has been that CaK videos taken under thin clouds or even just a little haze do not result in usable images, i.e. after stacking with AS all structure is lost. With my setup slight haze or clouds seems to affect contrast in CaK much more than in h-alpha, so I am follo...

Re: Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

Tube current is one of the major concerns and most of my better images are taken before 9:30am. I use a cooling fan on the HaT https://www.deepspaceproducts.com/product/temp-est-temperature-equilibration-system-for-telescopes---for-edge-hd-and-vented-standard-celestron-scts Thanks Mark. Re: Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

Oh Alfred! I would die of happiness if I could achieve images like this :hamster: :bow The Hubby has a made a lovely little jacket out of black-out material for my C11 over the past 2 weekends, it is great. I have also made a Tribahtinov mask to try and accurately collimate it when the weather gets...

Thanks Eric, James, Stuart, Mark, Terry and Brian for your kind words. Re: Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

Good views Alfred. Are these at prime focus with the scope? Hi Mark, Thanks for asking. Previously I used to have a Televue X2.5 PM before the Skybender with the Chroma filters and I used a 10" mask on the D-ERF. For this session, I replaced the PM with a Calcium corrector from Apollo and the imagi...

Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

15Jan21. The tropical winter brought in thick clouds and rain every day. We saw the Sun for the first time in more than 2 weeks. I did some equipment maintenance and took some CAK images with the C11 fitted with ARIES D-ERF (at full aperture) + Chroma CAK filters fitted in a Skybender. Camera was an...

Awesome prominence animation. Loved it. That must be my next CAK imaging project!!

We have record rainfall and the press announced a tropical winter here in Singapore. Have to wait for the weather to pass.

Hi Alfred, great progress and really impressive images! I tried my hand at post-processing your image (attached to your post from Dec.28th), but unfortunately I could not come up with a version worth showing (although it was fun trying!) Maybe the image scale of this one is pushing the limits of se...

Hi Stuart,

I saw such great details when looking at the images in full resolution. The Altair Astro, Lunt B1800, Basler acA2440-75um/1.5x Barlow and Baader K-Line filters make a great configuration for CAK imaging.

Fabulous full disks, Alexandra. Hope you fix the darkening CAK PST issue soon.

Recently with the use of the SCT, I have not encountered "pattern" or NR. I must use my refractors one of these days and try the pattern suppressor. It sounded so cool.

Hi James,

Glad to hear you had good seeing. Thanks for the report.

I had an imaging session on 27 Dec, but not yesterday and today as the weather did not cooperate. Always glad that we have this community where what we can't see we can do so from fellow observers.

Hi John,

You must be glad to have the nice images despite the seeing condition. I believe you will get even nicer images with a CMOS/CCD camera.

Please keep the images coming.

Dear friends,

I am limited by my post processing skills. I have attached a raw file of the stacked image (50 selected frames) for those who would like to process it to produce a nice image. Please post your results here. Thanks.

Thanks Mark, John and Alexandra for your kind comments. John, From what I can gather from Apollo, the Calcium corrector was specifically developed for a SCT. Alexandra, Apollo has given me much help in this project. I am grateful to him and friends in this forum for sharing their knowledge. Alfred

Hi Phil,

Great looking full disks. Congrats on that well-deserved SPOD!! (Hope I remembered it correctly). The red disk is similar to what I get with a colour ASI224. I think it is close to the actual colour in H-Alpha wavelength.
