Re: Readily Available Long Focal Length Refractors

Mark, based on my experience - and yours, I understand - a long refractor with an aperture stop will always be better than a refractor with the same focal length and just that aperture. Stopping down means that only the best corrected part of the glass is working and one can also change the stop dia...

Few January images

December 2020 and this January were the worst I remember, I have been able to do only very few images most of them in awful seeing conditions. For most of the time I have been forced to limit my ambitions to the use of the small Lunt50, calcium and WL imaging being impossible. I saved just the four ...

Re: Camera choice

Chameleon is a great camera for solar although the sensor is small. The USB 2.0 version seems now discontinued but it may still be found.

With my Lunt 50 I need to attach the camera to the T2 thread by means of a short C-T2 adapter to reach focus, don't know if needed with LS60 too.

Re: Bubbles

Hi Mark, it's not rust they are bubbles in the glue between the elements, the external surfaces are perfect.

Re: Bubbles

Thanks for your answers, I just wanted to explore a different solution than sending the item to Bresser, however I thinks that this is still the best thing to do.

Bubbles

After only one year of use my Lunt B1200 BF developed bubbles and other defects in the cement between the elements, they are visibile as superimposed on the solar images and are very annoying. I am very disappointed because I always treated the filter with great care and my other B600 which is four ...

Re: ED80: do I ever need an ERF for it?

A full aperture ERF is not needed but a good sub-aperture ERF is absolutely necessary. Forget UV/IR cut filters as they are not effective, a H-alpha filter of the type used for deep sky imaging is the minimum requirement to avoid long term degradation of the in-built BF. A 35nm Baader filter would w...

Very active Sun of Nov 25

A clear and sunny day over Milan allowed me to image our star in fair seeing conditions. How long has it been since the last time we have been able to see so much activity on the Sun ? I can't remember, it seems that centuries have passed since then  But further activity is expected in the next...
