Today another hole in the fog allowed to capture few images of the currently active sun. AR12781 looks impressive at all wavelengths. I have been successful in adapting the Lunt PT module to my new toy but I am still trying to optimize the setup, the below one is the best image I obtained so far. Th...

Re: Solar activity November 2

Thanks Alexandra, Mark.

In CaK the scope is very good up to 70mm aperture, less good @90mm, is a short apo for deep sky imaging. However I am waiting for its 1.6x extender which brings the e.f.l. to 800 mm and corrects the objective in the near UV.

Re: Solar activity November 2

Thanks for comments.

James, it's a large group - probably the largest of cycle 25 so far, that is rotating from the SE limb (SDO image attached). Let's keep an eye on it in the coming days.

Solar activity November 2

This is a foggy week here however today the sky cleared for few hours and I have been able to capture few images and a very short animation of the SE limb region. Great to see our Sun that is returning to be active. A new spot group appeared in the N hemisphere (two small spot in a large facular/pla...

Great, great work Phil :bow :bow off-band images reveal many interesting details, they are usual for professionals.

Waiting to try something like that with my equipment too.

Re: AR12773 with Quark

I am now using my 80 mm f/11.7 but I am also considering this one , 102mm with 1100mm f.l., had it for few months for testing in 2017 and I was very impressed by both optics and mechanics, one of the best 4 inch achromats I have seen so far. If stopped to 80 mm would lead f/d close to 14, very simil...

Re: AR12773 with Quark

Thanks for comments. Yes, Mark, as a TOA is beyond my reach I have been looking for alternatives for calcium imaging. The small 90mm Taka is too short, however, but good for WL and H-alpha and very portable. After many tests I eventually sold the 115  and returned to my long focus refractors wi...

AR12773 with Quark

I had little time for imaging this month, apart from experimenting with my CaK setup I made few images only and always in bad seeing. Few weeks ago I purchased an ASI 178MM camera and immediately realized that it gives rise to a fixed disturbing pattern on every H-alpha image with any of my devices,...

AR102S is a quite short refractor but the Cak image is good, have you stopped the aperture ?
