Re: Experimenting with Focal Reducers

Hi Terry Looking at the GPCAM it is very similar to the QHY camera with the front glass window held in the black screw on front CS mount. Have you tried unscrewing this and using the camera without? That is exactly where I was getting my worst rings, very tight ones like you are getting. I still got...

Re: Prom developing nicely

Hi Mark Not an ordinary Solar Scout, I have made an adapter to fit the Quark unit of the Solar Scout to my 6" f15 refractor. At F15 the telecentric unit gives f60+ and is to high a magnification for my seeing, so I have found a Pixco camera focal reducer fitted before the telecentric unit gives just...

Re: Prom developing nicely

Hi

Really struggling with a very hazy sky but here is an update of today's large prom.
It has certainly changed over the last few hours.
Best I could do, working at 7FPS so surprised I got this much.

Re: 25.05.2020 Proms at 2 o'clock high!

Hi Rusted Nice shots of a lovely prom. I noticed the circle in the background you have mentioned before on other shots I am finding with the ASI174 on my similar setup as you have they are caused by using to high a gain setting then ImPPG brings them out. To combat this I am capturing 3000 shots at ...

Re: Trying out a 2.5X TeleVue Powermate on the Lunt 60mm Ha 26-5-2020

Hi Terry Newtonian rings is their name, you just need to tilt the camera a little or the powermate. I find they appear with some setups and not with others as they are caused by reflections between optical components or the chip. On my QHY5 m I found unscrewing the optical window on the front of the...

Prom developing nicely

Hi

The prom is growing in size very nicely.
Difficult capture with a lot of haze and clouds, finding focus a massive problem but got something.

That animation is beautiful and just the right speed to take it all in.
Every time I look at it more appears brilliant, thanks Paul.

Thanks everyone for all your positive comments.

Yes JochenM love tinkering I have just been machining up some bits from one of my bits boxes to make a X/Y adjuster to maneuver the camera chip to the best part of the etalon.
Love it :P

Re: 21.05.2020 Slightly sharper smudges.

Hi Rusted Do you use flats when imaging with FireCapture? I use a really useful box lid with self adhesive magnets stuck to it to de focus, I have a steel dew cap so even though it can be 12 feet in the air I can just pop it on and it stays in place. My Zeiss should have ladders attached to it as it...

Quark images 20-05-20

Just a couple of pictures from yesterday 20th taken with my 6" f15 and ss60-ds Quark unit using a Pixco focal reducer before the Quark and ASI174 camera. Lovely day and thank goodness I was in the observatory out of the sun, One of the big benefits of the Coude system is the eyepiece is always in th...

Hi Mark I guess that's where they got it from but who put it on their website  Hi daslolo Mica is a mineral that forms naturally and is in flat planes of slightly romboidal structure crystals, if the mica is distorted from its flat structure its crystal bonds break and you get hairline frac...

Hi

Any idea where Daystar get 21mm clear filter aperture for the telecentric Quark or even what that means?

Re: Daystar DS 60

Hi daslolo I haven't tried removing the 16mm stop as it means sriping the etalon unit down and according to Daystar they are under pressure and releasing this will damage the etalon. It is strange that Daystar quote this unit as having a 16mm eyepiece aperture (the size of the rear field stop) but f...
