Re: WOW did anybody else see that?
Hi Mark
Thanks for that confirmation.
Pretty impressive I have only ever seen one before years ago in my first PST and it was much slower.
Nice it's on the limb.
Still very active area with another big prom building.
Cheers Rod

WOW did anybody else see that?
At around 11:50 BST On western limb as you see from GONG a hugely bright but small prom Just developed in seconds to around five times brighter than the chromosphere then grew in real time over a couple of minutes to a massive height above the surface. It seemed to throw off the top into space. The ...

Re: C11 attempts 28th May 2020
Hi Alexandra I have had awful seeing the last two days, clearer skies today but the image never stopped still, I gave up in the end and got the eyepieces out, remember them   But seriously, you are not that far away from us, Peak District, do you think it could be seeing with such a big ...

Re: 25.05.2020 Proms at 2 o'clock high!
Hi Rusted The only thing I was thinking and this is just my understanding, is the moore images you stack the smoother the noise becomes so when you are sharpening the image you don't sharpen the noise as it has no artifacts to sharpen and create the background rings. It was only a thought as you wer...

Re: Experimenting with Focal Reducers
Hi Terry Looking at the GPCAM it is very similar to the QHY camera with the front glass window held in the black screw on front CS mount. Have you tried unscrewing this and using the camera without? That is exactly where I was getting my worst rings, very tight ones like you are getting. I still got...

Re: Prom developing nicely
Hi Mark Not an ordinary Solar Scout, I have made an adapter to fit the Quark unit of the Solar Scout to my 6" f15 refractor. At F15 the telecentric unit gives f60+ and is to high a magnification for my seeing, so I have found a Pixco camera focal reducer fitted before the telecentric unit gives just...

Re: Prom developing nicely
Hi
Really struggling with a very hazy sky but here is an update of today's large prom.
It has certainly changed over the last few hours.
Best I could do, working at 7FPS so surprised I got this much.
Cheers Rod

Re: 25.05.2020 Proms at 2 o'clock high!
Hi Rusted Nice shots of a lovely prom. I noticed the circle in the background you have mentioned before on other shots I am finding with the ASI174 on my similar setup as you have they are caused by using to high a gain setting then ImPPG brings them out. To combat this I am capturing 3000 shots at ...

Re: Trying out a 2.5X TeleVue Powermate on the Lunt 60mm Ha 26-5-2020
Hi Terry Newtonian rings is their name, you just need to tilt the camera a little or the powermate. I find they appear with some setups and not with others as they are caused by reflections between optical components or the chip. On my QHY5 m I found unscrewing the optical window on the front of the...

Hi
The prom is growing in size very nicely.
Difficult capture with a lot of haze and clouds, finding focus a massive problem but got something.

Thanks everyone for all your positive comments.
Yes JochenM love tinkering I have just been machining up some bits from one of my bits boxes to make a X/Y adjuster to maneuver the camera chip to the best part of the etalon.
Love it
