Re: Daystar DS 60

Hi

Any idea where Daystar get 21mm clear filter aperture for the telecentric Quark or even what that means?

Re: Daystar DS 60

Hi daslolo I haven't tried removing the 16mm stop as it means sriping the etalon unit down and according to Daystar they are under pressure and releasing this will damage the etalon. It is strange that Daystar quote this unit as having a 16mm eyepiece aperture (the size of the rear field stop) but f...

Re: Daystar DS 60

Hi Mark I agree Because of the Daystar etalon needing the telecentric beam or f30 to work well Daystar need a very fast lens to achieve a full disk. I am gusing the lens is probably a 60mm binocular lens going by its f ratio so is going to be limited. Also when imaging I notice the suns image moves ...

Re: Daystar DS 60

Hi Since altguy started this thread I have had several goes at taking an image with my ss60-DS with little luck. Yesterday evening I put the scope back together as the sun had gone behind next doors house and used the ss60 in the front garden. I know the quark unit works ok as I have been using it i...

Re: 4.5.20 Pillar of destruction?

Yep Rusted I have just been watching it until next doors house got in the way.
It is looking like a large part is going to escape but may pull back.
Very impressive whatever happens.
Wish I could have observed it longer to see what happens.

Re: May 1st capture unprocessed stack

Hi Phil A nice capture and stack to work on that I thought needed little work due to the quality of the initial image well done. My first port of call was IMPPG to sharpen the image screen shot shows the parameters I used, not a lot. Then I used Paint Shop Pro9 to crop the soft edges created by the ...

Re: Zeiss 6" F15 Refractor

Sad that you missed it Pedro any idea where it went? Mine was relatively cheap as well, I got it just before ebay got going. Only the objective and eyepieces were for sale but the guy brought out the focuser and said we could have it if we could make any use of it. When I asked about the rest of the...

Lovely pictures Stu

I thought I may as well join you with a pic from the same night.
I have just got the ASI174 and gave it a go with SharpCap pretty pleased with It.
Taken with the Zeiss 6" f15 and 2x barlow.

Re: 27.4.20 One down and one to go

Many thanks for that information Rusted it helps a lot. I am capturing over a minute each time to get enough good images for stacking so movement on the sun's surface will be softening the fine detail. The ZWO asi174 looks like the way to go. Now all I have to do is make a case to the in house bank ...

Re: 27.4.20 One down and one to go

Hi Rusted Can I ask what speed is your ZWO ASI174 working at? I am using a 6" scope and a Quark Cromo (similar image scale as you are getting) with an Opticstar 131-M usb2 camera and only get about 7-9 fps, quite slow. I have a QHY5ll-M that manages 27 fps but has sevier lines, when I click on the a...

Re: Zeiss 6" F15 Refractor

Hi all Thanks for the appreciation. I guess I am one of the old guys now Eric :D That's the same era as mine Pedro the later ones have a different hand controller and motor drive. The box of eyepieces is all the same as well, with all the Zeiss orthos including the 12.5mm ones, very rare. It also ha...

Zeiss 6" F15 Refractor

Hi Ok you asked for it. Some pictures of my Zeiss refractor. Yes it is housed in my run off roof observatory at 2 ton total weight it takes a crane to put it together and when viewing the zenith it stands at nearly 12 feet tall. It is a folded coude system so the dec and polar axis are part of the t...

Hi

I Did my first flats today as well using cling film, it does make things a lot easier to process.
I just did the exposure by eye as my old camera wont work with sharpcap but still pretty easy, apart from reaching the objective

Re: Daystar DS 60

Hi Just a couple of pics from late on this evening of the small active region taken just under twenty mins apart with the removed SS-60DS Quark on my 6" F15 refractor. you can really see how quickly things change in these active areas. Sorry about the orientation change I was messing with the camera...
