Belated Oct 25 H-alpha
Here are two Ha mosaics taken last Sunday with my usual Lunt 100 and Grasshopper 3 (ICX674). All of the individual frames were taken with a 5x PowerMate. These aren't the best but not bad for the conditions - high thin clouds and lots of high-frequency turbulence. Unfortunately this time of year our...

Re: Solar imaging with a 11" EdgeHD
Kevin, You don't need any additional collimation when you install a full size ERF external filter. Just collimate your telescope at night and do not reverse it around declination axis - so, your scope will not loose the night collimation. Then install an external full size ERF, point the scope on th...

Re: Solar imaging with a 11" EdgeHD
Valery,
As a C11 owner this sounds really interesting, though I doubt my seeing here is ever good enough for even a C8. But I'm curious, how are you able to collimate the secondary mirror? Do you have a point source with enough intensity in the transmission bands?
Thanks,
Kevin

August recap part 2 with prom animation
...and these were from August 9. Difficult conditions with lots of smoke in the air from fires in the northwest (USA). First is a prom animation with 2.5x PowerMate covering about 2 hours. Nothing dramatic happens but lots of interesting small things. Abort animation - can't get it to load properly....

August recap part 1
Lots of clouds of late, so I'm finally getting around to posting August pictures (ugh!). They are all taken with a Lunt 100 and Grasshopper 3 (ICX674). I posted mostly positives. The recent discussions started by Valery on positive vs negative convinced me to spend more time on my positive images. A...

Great catch! I saw the GONG movie this morning but I was still sound asleep when it happened. Pretty funny about the BBQ.

Quark double stack question
I'm really tempted by the Quark. I have a 127mm refractor I could use it with but my primary interest is double stacking my Lunt 100. I had been thinking of the chromosphere model but the discussion on exposure times in Alexandra's post got me wondering if I might be better off with the wider bandpa...

Nice! That's a really interesting animation even before the lift off. It was cloudy here otherwise I would likely have been observing at that time too.

Wow - fantastic shot! I'm very tempted by the Quark for a 127mm refractor, and also for double stacking the Lunt 100.

Derek - Beautiful photos both terrestrial and solar. We trap quite a few mice and the occasional rat in our garage - know the sell all too well!

A really nice set, Mark. The Quark is pretty tempting for double stacking our Lunt, or maybe for a 127 mm frac we have if the ERF isn't too expensive.

Late June 14 Ha
Better late than never here are some Ha shots from June 14. They were taken with a Lunt 100/1800 and Grasshopper 3 (ICX674). Seeing was not too bad, 3/5. Thanks for looking. One 5x powermate shot yps_ai2_ps2_Sun_104732.jpg And the rest with a 2.5x powermate ypsb_ai3_ps_promdisc_111432.jpg ypsb_ai3_p...

Ha from June 26
We had a few hours of sun Friday morning and I managed to get a few Ha shots. Seeing was mostly not very good so these are only 1-2% of 2000 frames. It would be great to have FireCapture/PGR support for the solar seeing monitor! There was an ISS transit predicted for that evening but unfortunately t...
