Re: Appenzellersun, lightning on our star

Nice! I saw a few of those small flares on Sunday too and kept hoping it would be the start of something big, but...no luck.

Re: Appenzeller mothers day shots

Walter,

A really nice comparison. This may be a silly question but is it possible to form a composite Ha/CaK image to capture the information from both in a single image, or does everything just get muddled?

Re: Ha from May 10

Thanks! Though the seeing was quite bad the turbulence seemed mostly low frequency, so AS2! seemed to deal with it pretty well. Is that a common observation?

Ha from May 10

We had a couple of hours of clear sky Sunday morning (after snow Saturday morning!), though the seeing was rather dismal. Here's a first pass at one of the images taken with a Lunt 100/1800, a Grasshopper 3 (ICX674), and 5x Powermate. It's a bit noisy bit I'll try to tidy it up and add a few others ...

Belated April 19 Ha and animation

I've made a few posts here before but this is my first time posting pictures. First - thanks for all your help - I've learned a lot from this forum! The weather has been pretty bad here lately so these pictures from April 19 are all I have since March 28. They were taken with a Lunt 100/1800 and a G...

Re: What are typical setting for a Grasshopper3 camera?

Mike, I have the same set up and am now very eager to try your advice. Maybe I've been too quick to increase gain rather than exposure with my 2.5x powermate, figuring I needed < 8 ms or so the freeze the seeing (which is typically not too good here either). Also, if you keep 20 shots out of 300, wh...

I may well head in that direction as I get more used to the webcam. But I do kind of like the lurid red of Ha at the eyepiece!

Re: New Member Seeks Advice

Hello Hoggers, I’ve been interested in astronomy for many years but am also fairly new to solar – I just got my Lunt last July. I’ve learned a LOT from SolarChat. There are lots of very experienced/talented folks here who are happy to share their knowledge. Anyway, here are a few relative newbie tho...
