Re: Another usefull Photoshop Technique to try...

Hi Merlin,
I typically have an exposure of around (can't remember exactly) 1/60-70 for SS and when I double stack the PST I go down to 1/25 or 1/19 or thereabouts for surface detail.

Re: Solar flare yesterday.

Hi Brad, Sadly I have never been to Montana but I would love too. Montana is my little 10 year old car, but sadly my husband thinks it too old so I think it will be gone by March. Then what, do I need to change my name? http://www.flickr.com/photos/alexandra4/6159116819/in/set-72157628535629359/ligh...

Re: Another useful Photoshop Technique to try...

Not necessarily, as soon as I put the double stack on the PST I can suddenly get surface and prom on the same exposure, why is that then?

Re: Another useful Photoshop Technique to try...

Hi Merlin, Unfortunately I have the USB version too. I use the default gain of 260 but I do push it up for CaK and proms because I struggle for exposure and I would get nothing if I didn't but I never go beyond 400. For gamma the default is 100, I use 70-85 for the disc, and around 120-200 for the p...

Superb work Pepe! the image is extremely fine, I really like the arch filament which nearly circles the spot group, a very beautiful feature. The animation is also top quality and well done for putting in all the effort.

Re: Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask

Thanks Pedro, this looks very interesting, I shall have a go using this setting tonight :) As an aside, Ken kindly looked at my prominence image and why I couldn't sharpen in PS, it is as I feared, it is the fault of the human behind the steering wheel. It is too over exposed :( oh well, it's a lear...

Thanks everyone! Ken, I watched all your tutorials this afternoon and I thought, yes I understand masks now, then tried it myself and forgot everything :S I think I need to watch them all over again. It's so complicated, I need to think how to apply it (thats the hard bit), it's slowly coming though...

Yuk, why is that cloud always sat in the middle over us! it's like a cloud motorway :)
I was hoping to get out and take a picture of Orion tonight as they forecast it to be clear, I guess not. Who pays these forecasters?
