Sunday Sunshine - 28th February

For the 3rd day in a row (must be a record!) the day dawned sunny and clear, and I was keen to observe. Starting at around 9am with the 120mm scope at f28 for Ha, and again found myself fighting the seeing which was deteriorating by the minute. First off our departing active region and a bit of aggr...

Very impressive images Alexandra! I always have to remember how everything works in the situation too. Good to hear the blocker is back at the menders, let us know how it gets on.

Very nice images Stephane! I don't know if you're aware but you can't view them in the forum - have to right click and open in a new tab. This is because Astrosurf is a non secure web host - http not https.

soon you will be getting a dome to cover it :)
Not where I live sadly, a dome would draw the wrong type of attention. I have a green waterproof cover that looks like it's a covered rotary washing line, much less eyecatching to your average ruffian...

Can I ask where you get the information about seeing on Metroblue? I have looked several times and all I get is a weather forecast, am I missing something?

Re: Sweet spot, banding and tilted etalons ...where are the limits ?

Hi Marty, My mindset went this way a few years ago, yes, use the larger etalons to increase the sweet spot, the problem you will have is finding commercially available collimating lenses, hence JAPP producing his own 80/-800 lens. I went the route of using my good Lunt50mm etalon on a 60mm/f6 frac w...

Re: Recommended ZWO camera for CaK

Mark, What ZWO would you recommend? Jordan Hi Jordan I think the ASI1600 like Ken is using would work well. You could make a 50mm aperture mask for the ED100 to get your full disks, and then barlow up when using full aperture to get the sampling, When you're barlowing up you would use ROI and get t...

100mm at 393nm requires significantly excellent seeing conditions to critically sample (around 0.9 arc-seconds!). So I recommend you be prepared to maybe make a 60mm or 80mm aperture mask for your refractor for this reason if your seeing is not superb.
I can't stress how important this is.

Agreed, I'm sure its not 60mm. It's internal. So maybe 18 to 26mm? But my question is, what sweet spot could be figured from this if setup on an F7 instrument such as up to a 150mm F7?

Very best,
Yes, it's all just scaling

Nice report James! the seeing was dawg awful here today too. Sky was a blue as a blue thing, but was like looking through a bucket of water. The sun is getting ever higher in the sky, so we can be greatful of that,

Re: Sweet spot, banding and tilted etalons ...where are the limits ?

Any thoughts on the Lunt 60mm modular pressure tuned etalon they have available now? It's on an F7 setup. Thumb screws hold it on the back of the OTA. Should be fairly easy to configure to mount on the back of any OTA. I'd like to see if this is possible to mount on the back of big refractors (with...
