Re: Quark Users

My first response would be to take the Quark apart and reassemble it, my gut feeling is something (lens or filters) are pinched - I had it with my SM40 a decade ago. However, it is a new Quark so probably this is not the most feasible of advice ;) The bandpass across the image looks good Stu, so tha...

If possible, tomorrow I will also try the Etalon [in front of the focuser] ' without both lenses ' + a 2x kind of shorty Barlow I have - just to see if that could work too.
No it won't work. Don't waste your time. Many have been here with the same thought.

Re: Planning my first PST mod and need some help

... I thought the only difference between Baader RED + IR filter was simply like a Meade 4000 RED + IR/UV filter [which I have] ... No, totally different beasts. The way the 4000 filter works is by absorbing energy, regardless of what configuration is used it will absorb energy and at some point cr...

How very strange! That 90 degree cross hatching is peculiar. Does it rotate with the Quark?

For full disks, chips with 3.45um pixels would be a good start.

Meade 4000 RED #25
Whhhhooooaaaaaaa!!!! DANGEROUS! This is absorptive filter, not dielectric. Stop using it, and don't use the PST mod until you have proper filtration / ERFs. This filter WILL crack and given you are using visually worries more.

The front collimating lens of the etalon assembly needs to be at the zero point of the ruler in the first shot.

Yes, DERF is superior to CERF. Objective mounting superior to sub aperture mounting, but will work.

You really need the monochrome route for solar cameras. It is likely your spacings are not right for your PST mod.

Re: Camera recommendation < $500

One camera does not fit all! You have a variety of combinations there equipment wise too. I think I would get an IMX249 sensor on USB3 to give you the 5.86um pixels suitable for the Quark and your 6" scope. This should be around the $500 line. If you can free up some more cash the IMX174 sensor will...

Yes, the greater the distance the greater the magnification (and aberrations) produced. A glasspath will have a working distance listed somewhere I guess.
