Re: Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask

Ok everyone, lets see your re processed Halpha images using either method - NO WAVELETS ALLOWED! Show me what youve got... Next time I get a new batch of imaging data I plan on doing a side by side comparison off all these techniques. I've been playing around with them ever since Chris USM tutorial...

Re: Another useful Photoshop Technique to try...

Pedro, I find with my double stack SM60/DMK41 I really do need different exposures for the surface and the proms (ie 1/120s for the surface and up to 1/11s for the proms) Am I doing something wrong??? I only ever do 'one shots' with my DS40 - what gamma value are you using on the camera Ken? I've u...

Re: First ever shot at prime focus with wedge today!

Thanks guys, Mark - I tried to 2.5x barlow but no good. The seeing is limited to prime images today!

Crikey! I thought it was only me who couldn't use anything above a 2x barlow on a regular basis...

Re: First ever shot at prime focus with wedge today!

Cool stuff! You're going to be dangerous with a wedge ;) You planning to do any mosaiced full disk images? Running at prime focus will be seriouslly undersampling the image. You manage to get anything with your 5x powermate?

Re: Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask

I've been using the layers, magic wand tool and feather function with my solar images to differentiate processing between the disk and proms (bear in mind I do 'one shots' 99% of the time) and have found this to be quite effective, however I understand the power and importance of masks so this is al...

Re: SUN 20120122 WL LUNT152

Exactly Mark. I normally spend lots of time in front of my screen waiting for moments of good seeing. Since I use the LUNT152 inside a dome I will have to deal with other problems when the temperature increases... It's a long battle against bad seeing conditions (eventually we will succeed) ;) bsst...

Re: Full Disc White light 22/01/12 + Data

Wow, you have been lucky with the gaps! Good shot! Pretty much wall to wall cloud for me today with a bitter cold gusting wind - infact had to do some emergency repairs on our garden gate as a result of gusting winds. This week doesn't look too clever weatherwise in the UK, however by next weekend w...

Price rises are never good - Lunt prices here in the UK are just 'astronomical' compared to what you would pay for the same unit in the US...

fantastic results Pedro! Like you, I wish for the sun to be higher in the sky, maybe then seeing conditions will let me use my 127mm effectively for WL more than just on a handfull of occassions throughout the year...

Re: Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask

[quote][quote]Wow Mark, That is interesting! With your 2.5 powermate you have more information to be able to dig out as your images scale gets finer. So the more accurate checkbox should work better for you at that point. You have to be able to get the radius setting setting right on and the blend b...

Re: Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask

Thanks Mark, I have been staring at the November image for the last couple of days as I was so mesmerised by it, the rest I did today. Well, for the 2x images Smart sharpen works the best, for the prime focus images Chris's iterative Unsharp mask works the best. However if I don't write down now wh...

Re: Smart Sharpen and Unsharp Mask

These are fantastic images Alexandra - they remind me very much of Lucas. It really does bring it home when you compare to the registax and non-registax images side by side. Which technique did you use though - the USM or SS?

Re: Solar Lecture By Eminent UK Physicists 20th January

Thanks everyone! :) Must confess I felt absolutely shattered at the end of the day, one eye and ear on the talk itself, and the other eye and ear on the room full of pupils. Glad to hear the PST is 'back to normal' Alexandra, it has been horribly wet and grey all day for me, not anticipating much be...

Solar Lecture By Eminent UK Physicists 20th January

You may remember late november / early december last year I was lucky enough to spend a week at CERN and said we were going to get some of the physicists there to come in and speak to the students at the school I teach at http://solarchat.natca.net/index.php/en/this-is-solar-chat/14-the-charlie-bate...

Re: St. Peter Claver Catholic School Outreach an 19th 2012 solar photos

[quote]I finally got Dr. Phillips to agree to credit my images to the club instead of to me personally. This takes all the ego out and gets these students really excited about having their work and their school featured on such a major website.. Maybe it will inspire others to do more outreach? Yeah...
