Interesting Stu! I should explore my scopes for 'shiny surfaces' while we are in winter and not really able to do much observing. Winter tinkering ;)

Re: AiryLab HaT Handle Mod

Thanks Brian. Yes, the handle is bolted to the top rail. I had to undo the top rail from the mounting blocks, blind fix the handle with an allen bolt and nut to the top rail and then fix it all back down on the mounting blocks. I was also pleased that it all still fits in the hard carry case I have ...

AiryLab HaT Handle Mod

I'd installed a Losmandy top rail on my HaT a few years ago now so that I can piggy back other scopes / SSM etc. However have always thought that while the handle on celestron SCTs were in the right place for carrying a scope around, it was in the wrong place for lifting it onto the mount, and I nev...

Re: Calcium Grains in a Tropical Winter

Good views Alfred. Are these at prime focus with the scope? Thanks for asking. Previously I used to have a Televue X2.5 PM before the Skybender with the Chroma filters and I used a 10" mask on the D-ERF. For this session, I replaced the PM with a Calcium corrector from Apollo and the imaging was do...

I'm impressed you got anything with the clouds like that Nigella. I suspect if my sky 'clears' today it will be like that!

We need to be keeping an eye on the sw limb. Given the size of what is coming round I would expect some proms to herald the arrival first.

Re: January 15 2021 Observations. Spots!

Your temperature is similar to ours James. Our air mass has changed from one of polar origins back to a maritime Atlantic source. We had heavy rain overnight but this has passed through now. I'm semi optimistic about the sky breaking later on today. It's good we have some activity on the disk. Thank...

This is why the sun is great at the start of a solar cycle, spots pop up exactly where you're not expecting them.
