Re: Another day, another question
Thanks Michel, Walter, and Brian. The dark lines haven't really had any effect on the final product. So far, they process out with very little effort and are just a visual annoyance. The lines have enough transparency that a local levels adjustment should be enough to fix the problem if using the en...

Another day, another question
I guess you can tell that I'm in the middle of a lot of processing since I'm asking questions instead of posting images. I've noticed, in both my Grasshopper3 and my Chameleon, a minor effect in my Live view and recorded image, independent of magnification or camera orientation. It's the presence of...

Re: Does anyone know how this happens?
Thanks to everyone for all the suggestions. The reason I don't think it's a focussing issue is that I focus using a contrasty surface view and then I adjust the camera parameters to bring out the proms. I certainly would notice an image out of focus to the degree shown in the posted sample. I'll try...

Does anyone know how this happens?
I notice that, sometimes, when using a 3X Barlow with my LS152 to image proms, the proms show a weird outline effect. This also happens with the spicule layer. I don't think it's a focussing problem or a seeing problem. When I switch from surface imaging to prom imaging, I increase the exposure time...

Thanks, everyone. This filament was one of the more interesting ones in a while.
Hi Derek
I see what you see, now. It's kind of like a trail between the two parts of the filament. I was so busy bringing out the tonal
gradations in the filament that I didn't spot that. Great stuff.

Do you have a "sense" that a lift off is about to occur?

Uneven exposure due to hazy sky and clouds required more time than usual in PS. All the comments mean a lot to me especially since 3 years ago, I didn't know what I was doing. What the image doesn't show is the 5 or 6 steps I needed to even out the disc brightness from the center outwards. These involved using Duplicate layer, using levels, and then "painting" with th...

I try to make the filaments jump out of the page but, so far, I can only do that by inverting the image and using levels 4 or 5 times on duplicate layers and eraser tool. If that could happen
with a positive image and natural color, I would probably try that, too.

This 4 image mosaic was salvaged from 4 good frames taken with an LS152 at 1800mm and Grasshopper3. It shows great potential.
I was attempting a mosaic of half a solar disc but didn't quite get there due to clouds. Once the sky becomes more dependable, I'll try again.

Hi John
That's really fine work on your mosaic.
I agree with you that sometimes coloring suppresses contrast and details. Sometimes, I play with the hue
adjustment to just give a hint of color.
I do like the way the colored version of your disk is easy on the eyes but that's my preference.
