Re: 393.3nm K-Line imaging session w/stop down mask.

If seeing supports it, what happens if you image with the full aperture, do you observe a large decrease in contrast ? What is the the ideal focal ratio for k line imaging ? If you image down in UV at f6 (the native focal ratio of this scope) then the image is full of spherical aberation, which res...

CaK Sunshine 20th April

Following on from previous post with Saturdays Ha shots, here is the sequence from CaK from the day. I was optimistic of reasonable seeing, so dipped my toes in the water with the CaK full disk, but instead of the regular Skywatcher ED80 at f15 I decided to use the APM 100/800, stopped down to 53mm ...

Ha Sunshine 20th April

Hi All, Saturday was forecast a nice day, and, depsite cloud bubbling later in the day turned out quite nice. A lovely day to be out in the (chilly!) spring sunshine. I'll start off backwards time wise, with the full disk for the overview, this was shot last as I was reserving the better seeing of t...

Re: Calcium prom attempts!

The ghosting could be coming from the filters, but also it could be coming from spurious light reflecting off the inner walls of the OTA and/or the Lunt module tube wall. Advanced high absorbing black paint on all internal surfaces could help reduce the glare. My money is on the 2 'ERF' filters in ...

Re: Calcium prom attempts!

These are excellent Nic! If you want to draw the proms out more try a second iteration of shadows and highlight, somewhere along lines of tone 10-15% radius 10-15 after the first iteration. You could try tilting the filter in the Lunt, I think an easier route is stopping down the scope. You're CaK f...

I’m not sure how much further tweaking you could do, but I’m sure you’ll eventually squeeze out every last drop of capability from your setup. :D Be interesting to see what the solar spectrum CAK etalons show. Till then I keep fiddling, I can't help myself :D It certainly will be interesting. Keep ...

Welcome to the forum, will the screw thread back in? If not, just use a larger screw that will thread back in. It just needs to locate in one of the holes in the black ring you can see. When you have done this you can tune the scope, when it comes on band, all good, if it won't come on band locate t...

Very nice CaK there Ella! Which Bresser scope are you using here? Hi Mark, just the cheapie bresser achromatic 100mm f10 stopped down to 80mm. For full disks and proms try stopping down to 60mm, you're not going to lose any resolution but you will get a bit more contrast, especially with the proms.
