TiO and He filters?
TiO and He filters?
Don't know much about the use of these filters in relation to using with a Herschel Wedge. Would they be beneficial or not for observing/imaging?

The longer wavelength of the TiO2 filter is good for taming the seeing a bit with larger apertures, but, the longer wavelength results in lower resolution. Now I just use a smaller aperture with the baader continuum filter when the seeing isn't as good as I would like. The TiO2 is 705nm, 10nm (well certainly the one I have is...)
Not sure about the He.

Re: TiO and He filters?
Hi Philip
I use a He I filter from edmund (587.6 nm) it works fine, but I have not had the oportunity to use it side by side with other filters on a summer day to say top or flop

Only stardust in the wind, some fine and some less fine scopes, filters and adapters as well. Switzerland 47 N, 9 E, in the heart of EUROPE

Re: TiO and He filters?
Thanks guys. Think I've made up my mind. Having just bought the LS152 and a white light wedge to go with it (comes with an ND3 filter) I think that will quite do for now.

Try a Baader Solar Continuum or OIII nebula filter. Or even an ordinary green (Wratten #58). Any of these will improve the "white light" view with a Herschel wedge or solar film filter.
He I have no experience with. TiO might well work OK for imaging but the eye is not very sensitive at wavelengths over 700 nm & I don't think the view would be very good. You MUST have the ND3 in the wedge for visual use ... whatever other filtering you have installed.

Hi there
Have you seen this site?It has some comparison photos and a few links.

Re: TiO and He filters?
Yes, should have clarified, the TiO2 is only really an option for imaging...
