Blocking filter : Lunt and Coronado - are interchangeable ?

Post by giorgio1964 »

Hello everyone!
I have read a lot of discussion here, but I cant find the answer to my dubt.
Here it is:

I actually own a Coronado BF 30; is it possible to use it in a Lunt telescope (maybe 80 single stack) yet to buy ?
In order to save some money... and to buy only the Lunt without the BF.

What do you think about it ?

Thanks
Giorgio

Yes, it is possible. It may or may not work as you like though as the Coronados are a lot darker usually.

Thanks for the answer and for the wellcome !

So, you mean that all B.F. cut the same lines, or wavelenght:
And then the only problem maybe the overall light that passes trought the front filter: the lunt and coronado are really different in this charateristic ?
Is there someone here in solarchat-forum that use this set-up ?

Giorgio

The bandwidth of the final blocking filter is "tuned" to the finesse of the etalon.
In this regard, both the Lunt and Coronado are similar.
Depending on the ERF capabilities, there may be some resonance "leakage" which could affect the final image. The first element of the blocking filter, an ITF should suppress these.
I do know that the Lunt BF has been successfully used on various PST Mods.
I don't use Lunt equipment so I have no first hand knowledge of the Coronado BF on a Lunt system.
